SCARY BAD – A LENTEN THOUGHT
Lent. Laryngitis. But that’s no excuse to not do some “Lenten” thinking.
We live in an image age, advertising and promotion, etc. So what would YOU do if you wanted to attract people to something; and what would YOU do if you wanted to “turn people off” ?
Some of it is quite subtle. There are professionals for that, after all, professionals that really cleverly know how to give us hidden messages that attract or repel. Some of it’s not so subtle.
Consider Jesus. Consider how He has been depicted in pictures that draw us to Him.
Loving. Welcoming. Gentle. Protective. He says we should all come to Him simply, lilke a child would.
Authoritative. Serious. He truly does know and understand the Scriptures He has a right to teach us the Scriptures:
We can find Him in the Scriptures.
Jesus. Son of the Father. Praying…. as we should:
Hubbie kept a similar picture at his bedside in the few years before his death. I think it strengthened his faith that there is a loving God waiting for him, and One we can talk to right now. After all, Jesus did.
And here’s an instructive picture:
It’s Jesus, during a Mass. It’s what you can experience, if you haven’t broken away and put yourself outside of the Church. Then you can just look on . . . and wish.
Even drawings, not paintings, but drawings used to be informative and beautiful:
We used to teach our children with pictures like this. It’s a whole volume of instruction within one drawing. It attracts your mind with interest.
How about this: “what happens when you are attending a (real) Mass?” Here is an all-encompassing impression:
You fit in. You can be part of this. People wiser than us in previous centuries have figured this out, and these picture impressions continue to testify to a reality that transcends our world.
So now — “people. . . in previous centuries…” — Let’s contrast all this with this offering from a people who live in a civilization which has gone insane. I actually mean “insane.”
The people who use the word “Vatican” has been promoting a teaching — in the most repulsive way. This is the “official logo” of the purported “year of mercy” – an attempt to convince people that the New-Vatican is teaching the same as the Church has always taught.
This is ugly! As well as repulsive. As well as a mark of an insane mind
Want to see it trying to be used?
I’m going to try to laugh at it…..
Do you see the same Jesus here as in the previous photos above?
What’s their message here?
And why aren’t Catholics lashing out against this distortion of their faith?
