SAILORS TAKE WARNING (again)

April 5, 2017

(1),    (2) ,   (3)   points.

_____________________________

(1)   It happened again :

Sunrise 2 cr best

A red sky this morning.     (Sailors take warning.)     This time the colors were even deeper and richer than before.    I ran from window to window this morning trying to get into my camera that  shade of deep reddish-salmon-orange that I was seeing in the sky.

I couldn’t.        Fifteen pictures later, I was still frustrated.

Sunrise 3 cr new

And as the sun was rising,  I was losing the color.

Sunrise 1 cr

I had two choices:  either run out and grab my friend from out of his wife’s bed  because he knows a lot about photography and promised to teach me sometime;  or instantly learn how to use oil paints,  because only a pallet  of oranges, pinks, reds, and yellows could duplicate the color I was seeing.

Two choices which were no choices;    so I just  watched the Nature Show of salmon,  orange,   pink, and yellow,  then finally pale blue.   As I watched, I settled down and my mind began reprising the pathways it had taken during the night.

(“Sailors take warning . . .”)

(2)    The night before,  just before I had  called it a day, I’d been reading up  on Pope Gregory XVI,  perhaps a rather obscure pope today,  but he aroused some controversy in his day,  not too long ago,  in the 19th century, and gives us something to think about today.

greg xvi

He wrote some interesting and valuable documents, among them an encyclical putting forth in clear terms  the Church’s opposition  against slavery,  a  teaching which had long been proclaimed by the Church,   but needed reinforcement.

However,  even though he  produced some valuable and helpful documents,    he was personally and deeply suspicious of the consequences of  what we now would call the technological and industrial revolution.   He opposed the growing socialist movement which reduces people to  “economic units,”   under the management (control) of a central state government.    He saw this as the depersonalization of the individual, individuals becoming “the masses”  which the revolutionary socialist movement is  there to provide for.    (Move over,  God.)

Technology,  this pope believed,   would only hasten this development, as  families are torn  from their land ownership and  migrate into industrial cities where the artificial societies were  generally harmful to the dignity and well-being of human beings.

Curiously (to our ears)  he pointed out that . . .

DESK and gas lamp

. . .   gas lamps  (indoor artificial lighting)  would be ultimately harmful to the health of people,  interrupting their daily rhythms, allowing industrialists to extract longer hours   from the “workers.”   He also spoke out against  locomotives, for the same reason:  disruption of human society,  harmful to health;   dirty, polluting  machines  that create an artificial sense of human travel and again,  tear apart families.

radio

(3)       Next,     (Sailors take warning . . . )     I woke up to  the big radio station out of  Detroit in which  the host was discussing with guests the current threats from North Korea.     It was a good, thoughtful discussion,  but the host then said that the biggest threat from North Korea’s isn’t that   one of their nuclear bombs would  go off – boom –  in the middle of our country,  but rather that they would (or someone else would)  explode a big one in the atmosphere,  near our coastline,  causing a destructive EMP which would wipe out all our modern technology,  putting  us right back into the 19th century,  perhaps like the days of Pope Gregory XVI.

Although that sometimes seems like a quaint,  charming,  more clean and pure society before all our technology,   the hard truth is that  no one today knows how to live as they did in the 19th century.   (Our government has projected that 90% of our population would die within the first year.)

And then I opened my eyes to that  beautiful  salmon-red sky.

And so  there is a  (4).

Duck creating a wak 1

Our springtime Drake has put his lady-wife somewhere, haven’t seen her for a week; she’s probably in a protected nest nearby.   He likes to sail down our creek at a high rate of speed and he likes to swim across our pond, leaving a definite wake behind.

I’m sure he saw the beautiful sunrise this morning, and I’m just as sure he was oblivious to the beauty.    But though he misses out on the ability of humans to appreciate such beauty,  if – and when –  the EMP or something takes us back into a pre-industrial age,  he would miss out on the resulting chaos – and death.

Duck Wake 2

After such a horrific event,  he may feel some “disturbance,”  but he would be off, as usual,  to visit the nest or find some food or check for any enemies or take a drink of water . . .  In other words,  life for him would go on as normal,   just as it did for human societies after  the Carrington Event.

carington

1859,  right?    Just after Pope Gregory XVI.    A few technological difficulties,  but life went on and few knew what the sun had just done to us.

Today?   We are,  unlike my springtime Drake,  we are “sitting ducks.”   Dependent upon ever newer and more fragile technology that is dangled before us like a snake charmer using his wiles.

(You do know what the “Watchers”  brought down to humanity according to the Book of Enoch?)

EITHER/OR

February 23, 2017

Well,   they do have that right  —

freedom-to-hell

It’s either Freedom  —  for all of us.

Or it’s an  inevitable development of Hell on earth.

Either/or.

RANDOM SADNESS IN THE SKY

February 15, 2017

(The Spruce Tunnel . . .  “random thoughts. . .”  as it says on the side panel.   Feeling a little low today.     I’ll have to scrape me up off the floor by the end of this posting.)

gold-star-30

I had a delightful little surprise view of the little lighted  village in my bay window one evening.       The surprise was that the Full Moon joined the scene!

town-1

I love the night sky  (when we have one.)

This time of the year in the Far North the sun itself is pretty “random.”    We’ve been seeing it this week, though.     And with such days come clear, starry nights.   I walked out onto my deck last night and saw that bright and very orange star.

Betelgeuse.

betelgeuse-location-206x300

(Not my photo.   I saw only 1/50 of those stars!)     Betelgeuse in the constellation of Orion was very striking and was being very orange!     So lovely.

Our astronomers did a close-up of it.

betelgeuse-eso-300x300

That’s nice,  but seeing it with my eyes had a bigger impact.    Poor thing will only be there for another million or so years, and then it will go nova.    I’m enjoying it while I can.

The next day was a bit sunny and I had an urge to go into The Spruce Tunnel  for a little winter walk.   But two steps outside, onto my front porch, I looked up –  slightly to the south.

overhead-1-south

Yikes!

Slightly to the north:

I’m too old to be breathing in the cadmium,  boron,  barium,  miscellaneous metallic nano-particles,  desiccated red blood cells and other “biololgicals,”    and aluminum –  aluminum!    A neurotoxin, nerve killer,  brain deteriorator.      Immune depressant.  And plant killer.

You can’t enjoy the good ol’ outdoors every day.     Anymore.

Humans have put a lot of things in the sky – that don’t belong there.

But we’ll be seeing a lot of these things again, some day,  as they fall back to earth.

How about the other things up there, the natural things.    Every day we are watching lots of these things:

Looks like nothing remarkable today.

How about a genuine mystery,  up there in the sky,  but close to the horizon for the camera?

two-odd-sun-reflections

Someone took a photo of a sunset and of a . . .  another-thing-set.    Two apparent flaming balls, lowering themselves into the horizon,  each showing a reflective reality of their sinking.

Lots of photos out there of the sun’s   “companion.”     But it’s a mystery to me.     I just look up – and watch things.

I watched Orion and Betelguese for along time, until –  not that I got cold outside –  but until a deep sadness gently overwhelmed me. Something very terrible and sad happened to me, as a mother,  many years ago during the season when Orion is visible above the horizon here.   I had had enough.

The chemical trails in the sky made me feel sad too.   Long gone are the deep blue noontime skies of my childhood,  with a bright yellow sun,  and the occasional pencil-thin water vapor trails that followed the airplanes across the skies, for a a  minute or so.    I was lucky to grow up next to O’Hare Air Base  (O’Hare Int’l Airport now)  because we saw lots and lots of those contrails.     But that’s not what we’re seeing today.     And I very much miss that deep, deep blue color that made you feel like you were looking out into the beginning of Space.

That space junk doesn’t look healthy either.   It’s look a bit menacing, when you think of what each item is being used for.     I love science fiction movies –  but this is real.

And I sadly hope that I never find out what weird, destructive, cosmic things are coming down on this Earth – and all her people,  who will surely  face judgment some day.

Scandinavian . . .  deep winter funk . . .    bleah . . .  that’s my explanation.

COLONIAL BEAUTY

January 16, 2017

(  Just one observation to correct our “modern” prejudices.)

“The development of Western Civilization  has allowed for the greatest manifestation of the highest human values.”

sao-paulo-church-400

My daughter visited the above church in Sao Paolo,   Brazil,  an actual result of  Western colonialism.   It’s an attempt to glorify God and show the beauty of His Kingdom with the use of higher philosophy leading man’s spirit upward,  with order and hierarchy,  and an architecture intended to reflect the beauty of heaven, focusing the eyes on the presence of God at the altar.

Yes, those floors are mirrors!   The edges of the pews are decorated with sweet smelling flowers for one of the many weddings that take place in that cathedral.   Hopeful promises of better things to come.

Western civilization is the culmination of Greek thinking and  Roman law and governance in combination with  Christian principles.       The enemies of the West have prevented nearly every citizen from knowing what those Greek philosophies are,  what the genius of Roman government was,  and the actual Truth mediated to mankind through the Kingdom of Christ.

In fact, each of these three elements are so thoroughly denigrated today, that it seems impossible to have anything good to say about them.

Now,   real Truth is identical with Beauty and with Goodness and with Purity and with Holiness  . . .   with God the Creator.

Historically,  wherever Western Civ has spread,  there has been the spread of  kindness and respect for the dignity of the human being:

Hospitals

Hotels and Hostels   for travelers

Safe, free traveling

Universities,  schools,  and literacy

Orphanages

Commerce and common methods of bookkeeping,  common laws of interchange

Advanced technology:  Farming;  Beer and Wine-Making;    Irrigation;  Grinding Mills

Scientific   inquiry,  discoveries, and knowledge

Architecture that uplifts the human spirit

The ideal of honesty in politics and peace treaties

Equality before the Law and the presumption of innocence when accused

Exterminate the Church and the Christians;    destroy knowledge of the past.

Then cross out all those things in red.   Because all those things in red don’t come to humans just because they are humans.      They existed here and there, perhaps,  but not all together in one civilization.

Just one geographical example:     When Christian colonialism came to   African nations, for instance,  it brought with it all those things in red.     (Please  don’t look to an imperialism divorced from Catholic Christian principles.)     When Christianity was kicked out by the enemies of Western Civilization,  African nations collapsed into anarchy, chaos,  poverty, starvation, and the rule of whichever tribal despot could gain power.

And anarchy can happen anywhere.

To follow after the dystopian future vision I wrote about in the last post,   how long do you think it will take for all our institutions to also collapse – without a firm commitment to the principles and values of Western Civilization?

To my Foreign Readers:  Perhaps this explains why supporters of Donald Trump are cautiously optimistic;  not that Mr. Trump will lead us into some wonderful future and solve all our problems.    He has very little power, in the face of our anti-West Rulers behind the scenes.

No,  there is optimism because perhaps the social and political climate will now allow those who understand the value of Western, Christian, European, American ideals to live freely and without fear of reprisals and destructive opposition.

Optimism.     Hard work,   but optimism.

Something for all of us to do!

PREOCCUPIED WITH PASSING PRINCES

January 16, 2017

(Musings of a War-Weary observer)

I’ve been sick for an extraordinarily long time.  This isn’t like me,  but I think I began to falter somewhere around mid- December.    Finally, after a “collapse” in early January,  I gave in to the best remedy of all:  a cycle of rest/nutrition/reading/rest/nutrition/reading    . . .

Along the way I learned a LOT!    And here’s where I’ve been in my reading.

Join me in the Jungle of Politics!

(Don’t  read every name!!!   Just scroll down to the end of this . . .)

There.    << Is all that clear? >>          My mind has been living  in present times and historical times simultaneously — because it’s fitting.   The past instructs the present.

Each name in these charts HAS A STORY!!    Each name is a person who struggled to win power, and they did it by various sorts of warfare,  alliances,  intimidation,   influence,   including putting out rumors and Fake News.     Not unlike our political campaigns.    We think we know something when we know some details about public figures.

200 years from now poor young students will be struggling with learning the historical details of the 2016 election and the (hopefully) uneventful passing of power into the hands of America’s next “prince.”

(Oh, I don’t really, actually believe we will have emerged from the coming Dark and Ignorant Bloody  Centuries that will be following this one so soon as “200” years.   It may be that we are in for a very long extended period of time before we regain our human senses, including  recovering basic life skills,   reverence for our Creator,  a dedication to  the preciousness of children,  families,   the distinct roles of women,  the importance of the intellect,  and all the other precious foundational notions of a civilization.)

But whenever the restoration of civilization happens,    or perhaps there will be merely a “reformation” of human civilization,   people (students)   will look back on  our present time as just an extension of  the rise and fall of kings and princes,  or premiers and presidents, same as there ever was.

Sic transit gloria mundi,  right?

We are so preoccupied with our present princes that they can lead us wherever they need to in order to preserve their power.      We need to  back off from the minutiae of American (and European) politics.     The issues are far bigger.

And there is far more at stake than whether or not our political or social opinion prevails.

I think we’ve let the ball drop as we live off the “fat of the land” in an appearance of peace and prosperity, while all the while forgetting to do the hard work and sacrifice of building and maintaining a civilization.    Civilization is never built with ease and laxity.   And it never comes with ignorance of the past.

God help us.   God is there to help us.

Quicumque!

FUNK OF DOOM

October 15, 2016

I can get into some pretty good funks once in a while.

gloomy-cloud

When I write about them here, it’s usually with self-deprecating humor;  self mockery.  It’s actually kind of funny to be in that deep blue funk for a while, knowing that there’s really no good reason for it.      Just “enjoy” it while it lasts.

But this is different.   It’s been growing,  like a deep shadow just at the edge of your vision that becomes larger and larger until you can’t ignore what’s causing the shadow — and you have to confront it.

Things creeping up on you –

sheep-watching-at-night-cr

I wrote last time  “… you should see the expressions on the faces of the people I know ….”  Their expressions expressed what I was feeling about current affairs, about politics, about the future.   I had hoped that talking about things would make us feel better,  but no conversation can do that now.   Everyone seems very concerned.

I was with someone this week, having a conversation,  maybe hoping to get some perspective.   I was funking quite doomily for a while,  but I wasn’t getting any push-back, and I wasn’t being contradicted.    Turns out we probably have the same perspective.   Different experiences, same perspective on things.

It’s more than this:

bios

Follow that red line,  curving downwards right now at the first section end.   That’s my “emotional”  charting.     Biorhythms.      They seem to follow reality.    So I’m right down scraping  bottom — but it’s not that.

This funk began a few weeks ago when I start fearing – actually fearing – this election.

As I also wrote in that last posting about October 13th,    our Hundred-Year Probation is on its last year.   This is it.   It begins this month and the likelihood of doom increases each month.    No more time to reform ourselves, I guess,  or for reforming our nation,  for steering our nation into a different, safer direction.

We’re going to get hit.

hrc-stern-70  The Poor Sick Lady promises to “shoot Russian planes down” if she gets elected.   I wonder what that will lead to.

The latest report on World Debt is that the total owed by the world is well over 152,000,000,000,000 — and that’s by deceptive accounting practices used by world banks.   Actual auditors estimate that the World Debt is quite a bit higher.  (If every country in the whole world sold everything of value and all the world’s value was added up together,  it would still not be enough to pay off the world’s debt.)

Why does Debt matter?     Because historically,  every time big bankers (or countries)  have gotten into impossible debt,  our Rulers have started a big war.

hrc-and-wall-street

And now we know from Wikileaks and her emails that she tells Wall Street that she is squarely on their side,  she just has to do some “campaign rhetoric”  against them   You know,  she says,  a Public Persona for the people,  a Private Persona for us insiders.  She’ll do their bidding.

Our Rulers make back some money.    We die.    It’s called an oligarchy, and it’s never good for ordinary citizens.   It’s always good for the Establishment politicians.   The ones who know how to “win”  an election.

But my Funk of Doom tells me this has to be.     I can read Ezekiel 38 and Zechariah 14 as well as the next guy.    We all know this world system has to be brought to an end.       I’m expecting a bad, bad outcome to this election.

But, hey;  I’m no politician.

And it’s my funk, doesn’t have to be yours.

WAITING FOR HELLISH VAPORS

October 13, 2016

We begin that fateful 100th anniversary today.

This is an important anniversary.    I wanted this to be an interesting posting,  fun,   but  it’s got to be more.     Because you should see the expressions on the faces of all the people I know, and a lot more I don’t know.    There’s such a sense of something’s not right.   Something is about to happen .

It’s like the summer of 1939 in Europe.   The summer of 1941 in the United States.

bar-dissolve-er

Today is the 99th anniversary of October 13, 1917 –  the last of the serious visions at Fatima, Portugal.    Tomorrow, I suppose you can say,  we begin that 100th year which will end our “probation.”

There were 70,000   people there that dark rainy day on the fields outside the village of Fatima in 1917.   They wanted to see something “big”  happen,  because, before,   all people had seen  was three little children, once a month,  looking up at what they later described as a “beautiful lady.”     The oldest of the three seemed to talk to the Lady.   Then there were a few words about what the Lady had said – and that’s all.

This time they were promised something big.  Something that would prove to everyone that the previous visitations were indeed supernatural.

f-30000

Portugal was a skeptical country.   Mostly non-believers.   Scoffers of Catholicism – just like our politicians today.

The children were ready.    Then the visions came.   Images that matched the meditations on the Gospel in the Holy Rosary, because that’s what the rosary is:  three sets of Mysteries straight out of the Gospel;  and the children saw three successive visions,  each representative of one of the sets of Mysteries.

That was not the “proof.”    The proof came right after.   Lucia dos Santos,  the oldest,  pointed up at the sky and shouted “Look at the sun!”   Now, don’t get all scientific and skeptical — something did happen,  and it was something overwhelmingly terrifying,  and it DID seem as though the sun were  moving around,  spinning,   giving off weird colors,  and then making a startling plunge towards the  people.

SAMSUNG

70,000 people screamed,  ran,  fainted,  slipped and fell in the mud,  pleaded for mercy;  and approximately 30,000 more eyewitnesses from the surrounding area, in towns,  walking along other roads,  from apartment buildings,  from shops and stores. some more than 20 miles away saw it all too.   They didn’t know anything was going to occur, so this  “Milagro”  caught them by  surprise.

Rule out mass hysteria or mass hypnosis.   So many eyewitnesses,  and not all of them were in the same place.  And many were hard-hearted and determined atheists who were only out that day to watch a bunch of Catholics make fools of themselves.

But it happened.        The Miracle of the Sun.

Other miracles occurred simultaneously there in the field.   Some people were cured of diseases.  Some blind people found they could see.  Crutches were abandoned.   And everyone’s clothing was dry and clean!

(Actual photograph before the Miracle) –

fatima-pouring-rain

Today’s scientists have estimated that the amount of heat energy needed to dry the clothes of 70,000 rain-soaked, muddy people was so great that it would have melted the people,  annihilated them.

So something happened on October 13th, 1917,  and it’s not explainable by human knowledge.

There is much information about Fatima, all six occurrences,  on the Internet.     The facts don’t change, the eyewitness accounts don’t change.      The Lord God really wanted us to know something and to take it seriously – and to believe it.

So what do we need to know?   In 1917 we were told that God is very angry with us for our lack of religious faith,  for our immorality,   for our immodesty in dress,  for our “sexual sins,”   for the perversion and violence that we enjoy,  for blasphemies, profanities, and all the outrages against the majesty of God our Creator.

That was in 1917!    How bad could it have been then?   How much worse is it now?

We needed to know some things:  pray,  and pray more;   do penance in reparation for our sinning;  make daily sacrifices to God;  pray for others — and one big instruction:  the hierarchy of the Church, acting together at the same moment in time,  make a consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart.   ( – of Mary;   If you don’t have the right understanding of Mary,  you really won’t have an accurate understanding of Jesus.)

That’s it.   Pray, do penance,  make sacrifices,  stop sinning,  make this consecration.

But.  If.   Not. . . .

A worse war will come.   And if still not,  Russia will “spread her errors” around the world and whole nations will be annihilated . . .   worse wars . . .  carnage . . .

What are these “errors of Russia”?    Well, they are less and less of Russia and more and more of the Western World,  Europe and America.    But it was in Russia that these “errors” first most successfully were spread and permeated that whole nation.

These are the errors that came out of the Revolutionary men around the time of the French Revolution –  an error in thinking and logic that perverted the philosophies of the whole world – a spreading, contagious canker that destroyed goodness and truth wherever it went.

These errors,  diabolically inspired at the desk of Karl Marx and blossoming into a hundred choking miasmas of evil,  bring misery and poverty and  oppression and death  —   more than 100,000,000 people killed by their own governments.

I asked a couple years ago,  how could Karl Marx have done this?    What was he that his ideas could have started such a conflagration,  ready to be spread around the world,  first in Russia, then everywhere else?

Karl Marx had a”visitor”  in his study, where he conceived these Leftist, Marxist ideas.  He describes many places in his writings, and he was finally “moved”  to work out his mental torments in poetry.

I first wrote about them  here . . . the Sword of Hell.

I’ll copy just the  one stanza where he gives in to his diabolical visitor and knows just what choice he has made — fame,  and Hell:

 Thus heaven I’ve forfeited

I know it full well

My soul, once true to God,

Is chosen for Hell.

He made a deliberate choice.     He knew what he was choosing.   His political writings would become the punishing Sword for the whole world.

Something is coming.   Something big and terrible is coming.     Something is about to happen.

An election is about to happen.    We, too, could choose to wield  Marx’s Sword  against our own selves.

This election seems to be not about choosing one candidate or the other;  but rather we are choosing whether we want America to continue —  because “many nations will be annihilated.”             A just punishment  for  continued sin and defiance.

Something is about to happen,  I can see it on people’s faces.   Can it be stopped?

Why “100 years”?     The king of France in 1689 was told to do something; to  choose God for his nation rather than materialistic pleasures, riches, and political power.

He didn’t.  God waited 100 years and still no change.

In 1789  his successor,  King Louis XVI,  was beheaded,  and his France,  that France,  was gone.

CIVILIZATION ON A TIME-WAVE

September 7, 2016

A few days ago I was browsing my archives,  looking for something,  when I came across an old posting in my “WHAT’S IT?”  series.   (Soon as I learn how to add “pages”  to the Spruce Tunnel I’ll set up a whole page for all the “WHAT’S IT”s  –  they’re fun!  Right now you’d just have to use the Search function.)

Here’s the one I found:

chart-civilizaiton-jpg

Usually a WHAT’S IT  will be interesting, but have no name, no explanation.    But this one has a name, sort of,  and it has sort of an explanation too, if you’re a math genius.

This is a Time-Wave chart for civilization.  The explanation:

The Timewave theory.     . . . If you’d like  to prove or disprove it, you’d need to use some of this:
L(k) =  abs( ((-1)^trunc((k-1) /32))* (h[k-1 Mod64] – h[k-2 Mod64] +h[-k Mod64] – h[1-k Mod64])
  + 3*((-1)^trunc((k-3) /96))* (h[trunc(k/3) -1 Mod64] – h[trunc(k/3) -2 Mod64] + h[-trunc(k/3) Mod64] – h[1-trunc(k/3) Mod64])
  + 6*((-1)^trunc((k-6) /192))* (h[trunc(k/6) -1 Mod64] – h[trunc(k/6) -2 Mod64] + h[-trunc(k/6) Mod64] – h[1-trunc(k/6) Mod64])  )
 + abs( 9-h[-k Mod64] – h[k-1 Mod64] + 3*(9-h[-trunc(k/3) Mod64] – h[trunc(k/3) -1 Mod64]) + 6*(9- h[-trunc(k/6) Mod64] – h[trunc(k/6) -1 Mod64] ) ) . . .

Well, it goes on. . .     Someone used it to figure out the rise and fall of human civilization in general;  not any specific one, just the ability of humans to create a civilization.  What the author of this wave chart didn’t expect as he projected his calculations forward in time is that the line on the graph would fall to  ZERO!

Some day civilization will just end.    It won’t go on forever.    Humans, on their own, can’t sustain civilized life, at least in this Age of the World.

(The ancients determined that there will be Seven Ages of the World.     If I remember correctly,  we are  nearing the very, very End.    I shall have to compare this to Enoch’s Ages . .  . )

This structure lasted for about 1,400 years:

monte-cassino-in-ruins

Nothing says “end”  like seeing Monte Cassino in ruins!      We “had”  to do it, we said,  because the Nazis were there,  using it as an effective headquarters to kill the Allies who were defending civilization.    (The National Socialists – Nazis –  came out of barbarism,  not out of a civilized mindset.)     Like civilization, it had been sitting there, exposed, and vulnerable to destruction.

It’s been rebuilt, of course, and it’s so beautiful that it’s used as a school for artists who want to learn how to restore the beautiful things that were built in centuries past.

inside-2

So few of us, now, know the art of painting, architecture, statuary,  pargeting,  mosaics,   mixing colors,  lead glass and stained glass,  embroidery,   tapestry  . . .

inside

But if we have the will to re-learn all this, we could.

abbey

Monte Cassino Abbey today

Monte Cassino –  This was a great center of learning.    But long before that it was  the center from which a civilization was built after the Roman Empire fell and Pax Romana was no more.     People suffered,   disease and famine and war were everywhere.     Nobody believed it would happen or that it even could happen, that the world would descend into barbarism.

Pope St. Gregory the Great mused in his writings and speeches that this could be the end of everything,  the End of the World.

But for St. Benedict!      A man who desperately wanted to be holy and wholly a servant of God, apart,  away from all the troubles — but whose very holiness attracted like-minded men.   From their sanctuary in the midst of Italy  (very near where there was recently a big earthquake — the monks of Norsia there very much need your help . . .they’re living in rubble)   from their sanctuary around the beginning of the 7th century,  Christian principles and Christian action spread and slowly and steadily became the foundation for Western Civilization.

There would be NO civilization if it weren’t for the hard work of these Christian monks!

And we enjoyed the benefits of civilization for many centuries.    But, alas,  as we turn away from those Christian principles . . .  well,  check out that Time-Wave chart.

Civilization could  come to an end again.

Here is a story from the days of Rome,  a long time before it fell:

st-genevieve-stopping-attila

That’s Attila the Hun  (a barbarian)  on horseback.     He didn’t quite make it into Rome with his army that day.      He was repelled by the holy Christian authority of St. Genevieve.  451 A.D.

Oh, yes – a woman!      The Church has often produced strong women who in their own way, with strong skills,  have protected and prolonged civilized life.

A little more than a decade later,  she repelled another barbarian,  Childeric, attacking Paris,  464 A.D.          Though the barbarians were “at the gates”  and Christianity was still somewhat new and sparse,   St. Genevieve at least negotiated with this barbaric leader and had prisoners released and much more of the city saved.

See,  we’re not slaves to that Time-Wave.      Though the barbarians are at our gates again and Western Civilization seems to be diminishing everywhere – perhaps . . .   just perhaps . . .

Perhaps there will be enough prayer rising up, as at Monte Cassino . . .  Perhaps there will be men and women of valor to renew and restore  Christian values . . .

Perhaps God will forgive and be merciful again.

A MILLION MORE WHAT?

June 19, 2016

Have a “good Sunday”?    A day of rest?   Staying out of the heat?    Well,  here’s one angry RANT,  speaking up because the “heat”  is about to get you.  (The Spruce Tunnel will return to Robin Babies around here in a little while.)

bar dissolve er

A while ago I said I wanted to do a “data dump”  or rather a “photo dump”  and clean up all the notes and photos I’d been collecting but was too heartsick to use.

So then I decided I wouldn’t do it,  I wouldn’t   “dump”  all my photos on you.

But now . . . I’m just going to do my part, getting that information out there,  because  if Americans are like the people we see on American TV,  even on the entertainment-news channels,  then WE’RE NOT GOING TO KNOW WHAT HIT US.   I’m pretty angry about that.

I don’t mind being in danger as much as I mind being lied to about the danger we’re in.

Some of the following photos are from this article today,    and maybe from some other sources I’ll indicate.

But first,  a caveat:   I’m not one of those who thinks Teddy Bears and Candles will change anything.

MEME.jpg

Je suis Saccharine!     Indeed!    Right on!    “I’m just so sweet and caring.   Luv will change the world!”   (I wondered how long it would take after the Orlando massacre for the cameras to bring out the “spontaneous”  candles and teddy bears vigil.  This isn’t Orlando, but now we’ve got our own photos of sweet tears and caring.)

” A MILLION MORE WHAT?”            I don’t know . . .  I’ll start with some mild headlines.   (Have you been keeping up with these headlines – and hundreds more like it?)

Copies of actual headlines:

Somali Muslim Open Fire, takes Hostages in Texas Walmart
Muslim Man In France Enters Police Officer’s Home, Stabs Him Nine Times And Then Takes His Wife And Child Hostage  (Further headlines revealed that the man stabbed the mother many times in front of the toddler before he was stopped.)

Thousands of Christians in German refugee shelters are being persecuted by Muslims, sometimes even by their security guards.

(I don’t have room for hundreds more)

Remember the stoning picture from the last post?  They keep doing it.

I’ve got tons of crucifixion photos.    At least this guy was killed first:

Merciful, huh?   The Desert Warrior Crescent Moon God has a reputation for “mercy.”  Looks like they bandaged this guy up.    Afterwards.

We are being warned.      Imagine seeing this all over your city:

Now,  we either DENY  Jesus, who is the Son of God,   of One Substance with the Father, or we disobey the warning.    (Or at the very least, let this sign tell you what to think.)

Then we have some recent quotations from around the Western World, collected by a commenter named “politicalbelle”:

The following quotes are not from fringe players. These are the top officials representing the Muslim establishment in America today.
• Muzammil Siddiqi, chairman of both the Fiqh Council of North America, which dispenses Islamic rulings, and the North American Islamic Trust, which owns most of the mosques in the U.S.: “As Muslims, we should participate in the system to safeguard our interests and try to bring gradual change, (but) we must not forget that Allah’s rules have to be established in all lands, and all our efforts should lead to that direction.”

• Omar Ahmad, co-founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the top Muslim lobby group in Washington: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Quran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”

• CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper: “I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future.”

• Imam Siraj Wahhaj, director of the Muslim Alliance in North America: “In time, this so-called democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing. And the only thing that will remain will be Islam.”

• Imam Zaid Shakir, co-founder of Zaytuna College in Berkeley, Calif.: “If we put a nationwide infrastructure in place and marshaled our resources, we’d take over this country in a very short time. . . . What a great victory it will be for Islam to have this country in the fold and ranks of the Muslims.”…

“. . .put a nationwide infrastructure in place . . . we shall take over this country (USA) in a very short time . . .What a great victory for Islam . . . “

These men of Islam are showing guts,  grit,  virility,  courage,  focus,  strength of purpose.   “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant.”  Is he lying about their purpose?

They tell us that the American Revolution was won at a time when only 10% of the American  colonists were actively seeking a break with England.

“Not every Muslim feels this way!”      That’s what the immediate push-back is.   But it’s a non sequitur.       There doesn’t have to be 100%   consensus among the Islamic colonists.

So .  I have so much  more…. but that’s it for reports of contemporary activities.    I shall retreat into Lessons From History, next time something comes up.

The world doesn’t change.   “The more things change, the more things stay the same.”

Deal with it.

A MILLION MORE

June 18, 2016

It’s like watching one of those old movies.   The story is good,  but you can’t believe people would really act that way.

Headlines all over the place reported yesterday that we are well on the way to receiving a million more young Moslem men into our country.   We are not able to take care of the ones who have already been brought here.  There is not enough law enforcement;   not enough money to support them;   not enough room in our schools and hospitals;  not enough jobs for the ones who have already come.

But still, a million more will come this year:

O Try To Stop Me

He can’t be stopped.     The Barack Hussein person is not taking orders from the American people.      And neither are the Clintons.

So they are coming.  Here and in European countries.

WHO IS COMING

They’re flown into our country in commercial airplanes – for free –  and brought to many cities,  none of which want them or can afford them.   A while ago I told you about the little town in southern Germany of a few hundred people which received notice that more than a thousand Middle Eastern people will be settled into their town.   That makes no sense.

They don’t even try to make sense to us.   And so we can’t even respond to nonsense.

Those that are not brought into our countries officially by our Rulers,   come any way they can.

migrant-crisis-calais-2.jpg colonization

You see,  these are not  “refugees.”  They are not  “immigrants.”

They are colonists.

Colonists who don’t intend to assimilate but who intend to overtake.

Sometimes they announced this by blocking  streets in  Europe:

Bow to ancient desert mg

They know what they are doing.  Young fighting men posing as “poor” refugees:

Truly.   Truly.   Truly,  they know what they’re doing.

Does it matter?

Does it matter that we America;  Denmark;   Holland;  France;  England;  Germany . . .   We are all receiving colonists from the same culture.   The warning is the same for all of us:

German Warning Poster

Yes,  genocide.

Genocide against white people.

A mother whose young son was beaten up on his playground by sons of these colonists.   and the authorities told her they could do nothing.

Young European women all over are being raped and beaten and then later tell authorities that they couldn’t report the crime – because they were afraid that they would get into trouble.   Yeah – what kind of white person wouldn’t welcome “immigrants”?   The young women repeatedly said they were afraid of being called “xenophobic.”

Always name-calling to keep us in our place.

The historian in me watches in disbelief  as  European and American countries  do nothing. Like someone made a bad movie and didn’t understand how Men fight back.  Human beings don’t just act like that:      roll over and play . . .   nice.

A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL DIES (II)

May 25, 2016

( A rant, of unanswered questions.)

In the last post I told you how this 12-year-old girl died.   And why.    You need to feel the impact of that story.     I don’t want to repeat it here in this post because I do;  I do feel the impact, even yet.

When I first read the story of the killing of this little girl,  I had some questions.    I wondered where is all the response?    Who is reacting to this story?  Where are the men who feel protective and want to rise up and avenge her death?

Where are the fists raised in defiance?

Where are the protestors?     Where,  at  least,   are the paid young demonstrators holding professionally made signs which they can’t explain?

Burning a little girl to death was barbaric and uncivilized.   Where are the civilized men who beat back barbarism and kept it at bay all these centuries?

Did God somehow invent a new type of human being that is guaranteed not to fall into barbarism?    Do good men now need to do nothing and civilization will just appear?

Or is our world at its end?

earth asteroid

Maybe we’re the same old human beings, fallen from grace,  full of sin and violence,  self-referencing in all our actions, in need of a Savior whom we cheerfully ignore. . .   and now in need of  a serious chastisement.

And maybe women are taught to act as though they were men;  and men act like women and  “get in touch with their feminine selves.”        And maybe children are not taught to respect and humbly  learn from those who have come before them;  their parents, for instance.

Maybe the enemies of Christianity have taught us to sneer at Christians:    “You’re supposed to luv everybody and turn the other cheek!”

Even from  within Christianity,  her enemies say:   “Christians have military conquest in their history too!”     Or:    “We all worship the same God.”

And from without the Christian experience, placed as head of the US:  “Don’t get on your high horse.”

O presofus

And we cower and are afraid to respond.

And those who rise up to conquer in the name of a millennia-old desert warrior crescent moon god take notice.

This week . . .  I have some examples.

And one more question, which perhaps should also be asked:     Are stories such as this little girls’  being suppressed?

Or stories like this?

burned-alive-12 yr old forgive them

Or stories like this poor man?

Our Own st thomas more

So many, many more . . . .

This happens every day,  by those who are on the march.    (That’s a military phrase, by the way;  not a literary metaphor.)

Good old news in the next post.

WE DON’T LIKE BEING MOCKED

December 11, 2015

At least I don’t,  and the people I know don’t like being made fun of,  being mocked.   But mockery can be a powerful tool, so this is a photo-rant against such mockery:

The ongoing programmed invasion of the Third World, non-Christian cultures into the First World, Christian-influenced cultures – with the intention of breaking down the First World Christian-influenced cultures –  will continue on in the near future.

I don’t know what the outcome will be.  I’m a historian.  I’ve seen civilizations come and go.   I’ve seen what happens when good people “do nothing.”   I don’t know if there will be enough people today to rise up and defend their own cultures.

But I do know that good people who are defending their lives have been mocked.    We have been told by an  anti-American leader  that we, the American citizens,  are “afraid of women and three-year-old children.”  Remember that?

We are afraid to let these little guys “immigrate” into our country:

I 5 yr old

Okay,  he might be a little older than “three years old.”

Palestinian-girl-stab

Well, okay, that’s a pretty big knife.   She might be older than “three years old ”  too.

But how about another children’s class with  teddy bears and cute stuffed animals?

muslim-kids-animals

The video had been “removed” —  i.e. censored — off the media,  but the accompanying article described a class in which very small children were being taught how to hack off the heads of all kinds of “cute little stuffed animals.” And some  were “three years old.”

How about the “moms”?

Mom

Nothing to fear there?      There are moms;  such moms.

Ask the ladies:

Islam ask the ladies

The “ladies”  come with papers.  That proves they’re friendly, right?.

(Headlines today:  “ISIS found with passport-printing machines.)  Or as the media said, “may have.”    They  don’t want to scare us too much.

Or you can ask the Muslim-friendly leaders if we have anything to fear:

The three islamists

And you’d better know who the Muslim lady in purple is.  She rules the one who was placed in the office of the American presidency!

Do we have anything to fear?  You can ask the guy in the middle who is bowing really low —  oh, never mind.

O bowing to many

Can’t ask him.  He’s the one who mocked us in the first place.

This is the season of Advent.   We look to the coming of this planet’s Messiah,  the first phase of it and the second, final,  phase.  We hope to understand more during each annual remembrance.

The Bible, both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament  indicate that the Babe in the Manger had come down from Heaven as a conquering Warrior, into this Land of Doom,  this Land of Destruction,  and He will defeat all that has given us reproach and ruined us. *

And the Word of His mouth is like a two-edged sword.

I asked my class this morning to design a new kind of Christmas card . . .

We had a good laugh.

But we were not mocking.

{Advent}

  *     (see Zephaniah 3:14-18  and Wisdom 18:10-15 and Hebrews 4:12)        “Do not fear, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak. 17The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory.

THAT’S NOT NOTHING

December 6, 2015

It’s the Post-Thanksgiving Football Season now.        I’m not a “man”  and this  is not my “cave,”  but I live alone, so I CAN put a turkey in front of me . . .  in front of the TV.

SAMSUNG

I began the season enthusiastically with football on my TV and knitting needles firmly in hand . . .

SAMSUNG

. . .   and now  I’m coming near the end of the season – with football on my TV and knitting still in hand.

A couple of you have asked how my projects are coming.  Here they are:

SAMSUNG

I’ve just about finished Cooper’s bear sweater – just the sewing together.   And I’ve started on a pretty  sweater for me.   Not pink.  It’s “Iced Orchid.”     Very pretty and soft.

Well.  And one more  –

SAMSUNG

I did the green vest too.  Almost finished, just a few more stitches.   (Might take those buttons off and put different ones on.)

Uh —  I suppose this indicates I’ve spent a lot of hours watching football!

My great-grandmother would not approve of sitting in front of a television set, watching football games — and “doing nothing.”     (That’s her in the right-hand column somewhere;  Hilda Larsen.  Farm wife.  Hard worker.)

My grandma would not approve of me sitting in front of a television set, watching football games — doing nothing.   She was always busy and occupied.

My dad would not approve of me sitting in front of a television set, watching football games — doing nothing.    He had  very high standards for behavior and productivity.

So I knit.   That’s not nothing.   And I generally do housework during half times.  I clean things when the teams are taking a break.    Because I’m “driven.”       Hard work;  keeping busy;  be useful and productive.

I let my Friday class “loose” in their discussion last week.    I joined in, and the Advent discussion about Christ’s first coming meandered off into His second coming and what conditions will be like when He does come back.   These are Advent themes;  we were being “productive.”

And we discovered how lucky we have been.

We concluded that we have no experience with how bad things will be getting, soon perhaps,  and we were all struck with the realization of how very sheltered we’ve been in these last seventy years of upward material prosperity and relative peace — relative peace, because none of us have ever experienced war on our soil.  We don’t know what it’s like to be invaded by a foreign army.   We don’t even know domestic civil war.

We’re grateful for this.    I’m personally grateful because these many decades of relative peace and relative prosperity have given me time to learn; to reflect; to feel gratitude;  to prepare;  to discover what is serious about life; maybe to grow stronger in faith and character so that when things change for the worst,  I will not be surprised, but I will be ready to do my part and to be useful to others;  and to meet Christ, my Maker,  if the coming Bad Times result in my death.

So that’s why I watch football –  to take pleasure in some small things of this world and to show gratitude for leisure time,  while we have it.   And that’s why I knit and clean during the games – to show that there is always work to do that each one of us owes.

It’s not my great-grandmother;  not my grandma;  not my dad.   It’s   Jesus, my Lord and Savior, who said:

I must work the work of Him that sent me, while it is day the night is coming when no man can work.   (John 9:4)

So,  work!    Don’t do “nothing”!

“Work for the night is coming. . . ”     Oh, dear.   And that’s the first line of a wonderful old hymn.

piano happy

And now I want to go waste time at the piano!

TWO CLASSROOMS

January 22, 2015

ghosts

Beautiful snowfall recently.  Just had to stop and watch the slow and steady downward drifting of the white flakes.   Next summer I’ll just remember, “Oh, yeah,  snow is pretty…”  —  and that’s all, so I wanted to stop and take the time to experience what a snowfall is, while I was seeing one.

Takes time.

But, then, just as happened in the last posting or two,  there was a deep, dark melancholy seeping into this day.  The bright snowflakes were only an overlay on top of the reality of this world.

school maam
You all know I’m a teacher, by nature.   All my life, from early childhood onwards I’ve seen the world through the eyes of someone responsible for teaching others.

So the melancholy of this day has its roots somewhere around 30 years ago,   when my children were old enough to no longer need a mother to be in the home, physically,  all day long while they were in school.   I could go back to public schoolteaching!   My schedule would be roughly theirs, and I would not have to abdicate any of my motherly duties.

But there was no need for me.   When I had been a public schoolteacher, I had 28 to 34 first graders in my classroom each year.   Now,  there was no need for any more teachers.    Classroom size had fallen to somewhere around 20, but  there was  still an oversupply of teachers.

Where were all the children?

Answer:   In my home state,  TWO CLASSROOMS WORTH of children,  like my dear little first graders,  had been burned to death!  cut up into little pieces!  torn apart by machines!   and in other ways tortured while they were still alive.    50 – 60 living babies PER DAY!

If somehow a baby survived,  he was thrown into a nearby trash receptacle, according to eyewitnesses.    Until he died.

No more little children to teach… or to love… or to raise to be our new mothers and fathers and scientists and doctors and inventors and businessmen and laborers …  and good citizens … and souls who have the opportunity to choose Eternal Goodness …

How many have we lost?     57,000,000 Americans and counting?    59,000,000 ?

It’s not melancholy.     It’s January 22nd.

ADVENT – GOOD-BYE TO THE ELEMENTS

December 7, 2014

Clip Advent 2

The Second Sunday of Advent, the season of preparation.   Two candles burned today and throughout the week.

Tradition is nice.   It forms the foundation on which we build our activities.    It structures and makes sense out of our days.

It’s traditional to have Readings that go along with each Sunday.   Some of you may have heard the word “elements”  in your Readings today.

Elements.   Remember when we studied the elements in our high school science?

Periodic Table

“Element  –    a substance which contains only one kind of atom.”     And there was a Periodic Table to sort out all the atoms.

Have you seen that T shirt motto?  “Never trust an atom;  they make up everything!”   There are atoms in everything and everything is made up of atoms.  They are the elements that make up everything we see, including ourselves.

So.    We hear today in the Advent Readings that this world won’t last forever.   Something Big is coming:    But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night;   in  which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. ”  (II Peter 3:10)

These are the words of Peter,  St. Peter,   the leader of the Apostles of Jesus.     He is reminding us that one day all the elements will “go away”  with a Big Bang!     He goes on to ask us,  seeing that this is true,   that this “Big Bang” is coming,  what kind of people ought we to be?

What kind of people should we be and how should we prepare ourselves for that  coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat”?     (II Peter 3:12)

That’s not meant to be metaphorical.  All those elements in the Periodic Table will be burnt up — because this world is in rebellion against God and most of the humans who live here do not care to even  think about their own Creator.      It’s a spoiled, ruined, wasted world, and it is marked for Judgment.

Of course, this world has a Savior who says “Behold, I make all things new.”   A new Heaven and a new Earth.   But that’s for then.    We live now,  with these elements –  these elements that are  ripe for judgment  —  and doomed.

All we can do now is Prepare.    As St. Peter asked:  Seeing that these things will come to pass,  what manner of men ought we to be?

. . .  ex mandato Dei. . . .     We have no other chance.

ADVENT: “ANOTHER DAY – ANOTHER TRUCK”

December 7, 2014

Another day, another truck appears in front of our house.

SAMSUNGAnother workman stepping out of his truck.     Tree cutting, clean-up, maintenance, and winter prep have kept us busy lately!

This time it’s a cleaning and inspection of our chimneys.    SAMSUNG

With all that “deforestation” going on around here, we’ve amassed huge amounts of firewood.     We’ll be using the fireplace a lot in the coming years, so it’s a smart idea to prepare for such heavy use by having a thorough cleaning of our fireplace and chimneys done.

For those of you who know what Advent is all about,   you’ll see that all this preparation is necessary.    Examination;   inspection of what you have;  looking for cracks and imperfections in who you are;   cleaning;  scraping off the harmful or heavy accretions;  re-reading and learning better the “manuals,”  which might remind us of the Bible and other good writings from those who have gone before us;  and then consultation with the experts – a visit to the confessional, perhaps?

Something is coming.,   Something Big is coming.   Someone is coming for us.

I’ll be more explicit in the next posting.

CENSUS-TAKING ON ALL SAINTS DAY

November 1, 2014

There are many reasons to take a census — and one of them is to Collect Identities.  Taking the Roll.  See if everyone is there.

All Saints Day –

saints in heaven

You already know that your soul doesn’t get destroyed when you die, right?   It goes somewhere,  one of two places, as the Creator of your soul decides.    Today, on All Saints Day we honor those souls which are in Heaven forever.

The Offertory prayer instructs us thus:  The souls of the just are in the hand of God and the torments of malice shall not touch them.  In the eyes of the unwise they seemed to die,  but they are in peace.  Alleluia!      So important is this to us  that the Church has said we must collectively and publicly honor those saints in Heaven once a year, on this day.

So who are the ones in Heaven?    I found it fascinating to hear one of the Readings appointed for today.  It comes from the last book of the Bible, and it says that the human occupants of Heaven are a “great multitude”   and then  a kind of Identification  Census is given to us:   The saints in Heaven  are described as belonging to the Twelve Tribes of Israel.    The Tribes of Israel represented God’s  people, of course, before Christ;  and after the Resurrection and Ascension,  God’s people are all kinds of humans who trust in Christ as the Messiah,  their Savior.  The  multitude seen in Heaven are all the people who belong to God.

So, sure, we know that at the Coming of Christ, when all this world ends,   all God’s people will be taken to Heaven and will be known and accounted for — but how interesting that there was also at Christ’s  First Coming,  another Census taken.    The Roman Emperor decreed that a Census be taken of all the people in his Empire.    We know that;  that’s what required Mary and Joseph to travel to Bethlehem at a seemingly inconvenient time.

Taking a Census is a sign of   authority over a population.     The  King  wants to know His own.       We humans know about all kinds of “kings” —   why do they want to know us?     Well, today is All Saints Day.   Look again at the words of that little prayer:   “. . . and the torments of malice shall not touch them. . . .”

No malice.  No torments.   No torments coming from malice.    What, then, is waiting for the saints who are in Heaven?

Beatitudes

Goodness;  mercy;   comfort;  their longing for righteousness – fulfilled;  belonging;   peace and safety,  love and joy — everything in the whole Kingdom is theirs!

The Beatitudes come from the Gospels in the Bible,  Matthew 5, specifically.   It’s fitting that we heard them read today.    The saints in Heaven possess all this in perfect fullness.    God is good.     We can only hope that our names will be found on that final Census.

Deo gratias.

FRIDAY’S FINICKY FISH

October 25, 2014

You have to read the sign twice to get the joke —

SAMSUNG

I was doing some business in this little shopping area when I noticed this sign.     It’s Friday and I was planning to get fish,  but  I wasn’t planning to get fish from a farm.   “Farm fresh tomatoes,” okay;   “farm fresh corn on the cob,” okay.

But, seriously,  ever since I read Clive Cussler’s “White Death”  I haven’t willingly purchased “farm-raised”  fish.

It’s tough to feel good about the fish that’s for sale nowadays.    I’ve learned too much about fish farming to feel comfortable with that source.     Microscopic particles rain down on us from the chemtrails, which add metals like aluminum, barium, and cadmium to our fish flesh.    Wild-caught fish from the Pacific Ocean have tumors and lesions —  so sad to see — reportedly from the radiation that is flowing out  at staggering rates from the broken-open reactors at Fukushima.   Here in the Far North decades-long industrial runoff has contaminated our rivers and lakes which makes our fish unsafe to eat in any great quantity.

They tell us not to eat fish more than once a week.   Oh, well.     That’s Friday, then.

If I’m not going to eat the farmed fish, at least I can get a little laugh at the sign.     I have visions of Squanto teaching the Pilgrims to plant a fish inside their little mounds of seeds.    But then Squanto’s own fish harvest came from a cleaner ocean.

I guess our world needs a good cleansing.    Until then, I’ll be a finicky fish eater.

THE ISSUES OF THE WEEK: 19th Sunday, Post Pentecost

October 20, 2014

For many more than a thousand years back,  Christians have heard on this particular Sunday these words:  “Salus populi ego sum….”   ” I am the salvation of the people.”

It’s the reassuring voice of God spoken to people in whatever generation, whatever century they have lived in.    Every generation has its issues to worry about, and on this first day of the week,  I know that the succeeding days of  this week will present us with “issues” and “worries” too.     Christians must juggle the command in Romans 13 with the information given to us in Revelation 13.     Do we pray for our rulers (Romans 13)?  Or do we fear them and prepare for their  coming assault on us (Revelation 13)?

One thing is certain:  Although we know that there is One True Holy God who is our only hope, our only salvation,  he is not a magician who will keep all tribulation away from us.   He does not offer us an easy remedy:

take two tablets

But I guess that cartoon doesn’t  really depict an “easy remedy.”     It carries a truth:   Western Civilization was built upon Judeo-Christian principles, of which the Two Tablets of the Ten Commandments are its perennial and eternal moral guidelines.

Maybe that cartoon is saying the same thing we heard in the Introit prayer today:    “Salus populi ego sum –  I am the salvation of the people…..in whatever tribulation they shall cry to me, I will hear them and I will be their Lord forever.

“….in whatever tribulation….”         All those various news threads we fussed about last week:   containing ebola,  the EV D-68 killing and paralyzing our children,   Isis amok,   Christians killed for going to church, a 17-year-old young man crucified this week,  radiation levels higher than humanity has ever experienced before,  world economy on its last legs -last weeks?-last days?,   approaching war,   and the Church itself trying to  devour its own teachings  . . .   All these and other  dangers we face are our tribulations this time, this generation, this century.

Looking to God and His guidelines is a way of acknowledging Him and calling on Him  and looking to Him for our Help.

And in  calling out to  God,   (in whatever tribulation they shall cry to me)  we are assured that past generations  were heard and made it through their trials and continued on.

Until now.

Georgia, 2014

October 18, 2014

It’s been a busy week,  a good busy week, and I haven’t been around much to do any serious blogging.    So how about a little fun on this Saturday?

At least I think it’s “fun.”

guidestones-and-krisThat’s a photo of me, standing in the Georgia Guidestones.   Hubbie and I took a road trip to Florida one year, maybe ten years ago,  and along the way we stopped in Georgia.  I think we both didn’t believe the Guidestones existed, we wanted to be assured that this is just a conspiracy theory sort of thing,  and we weren’t expecting to find them standing in an eerie sort of silence in a farmer’s field in Georgia.

But there they were.

I’ve written about them before,   (here, for instance), and you can Google more information about them.   There really are strange “commandments”  carved into each giant slab, same words, different languages of the world.   They are rather menacing, humanity-hating sort of commandments.  No one would have the power to enforce them,  right?

Well, someone’s been here since Hubbie and I visited them, and that somebody has added some numbers:

guidestone 2014 plaquePeople have been noticing that the year 2014 was recently attached at the top of one of the slabs — between the English and the Spanish ones, I think.   Many have taken photos and posted the little 2014 addition.

Here is a photo of how that place looked before the “2014”  was put up there:

Turns out the little groove for the year-date plaque in the upper-right hand corner was already carved out, waiting there.

So why was “2014” put up there?   And who did it?

giodestone someone knows

Someone knows.  Someone on the other end of that camera knows.    Someone “official.”
