TIPPING POINTS TO DANGER

April 1, 2017

I think this relates to “Saturday,”   as I said last week,  the day when Christendom remembers that absolutely  desolate feeling of being without the Christ who was just crucified and placed in His tomb.

It relates because just as the first  Christians were without Christ on that day,  so are today’s cultures largely without Christ.   When a culture takes a giant step away from reason and truth,  it gets  desolation and  confusion,    barbaric violence and anarchy.

tipping egg

Before Western Civilization  (that is, Christendom)   there were centuries of barbarism.  And now,  post-Christendom,   our Western Civilization was strong enough to imitate the values of Christendom  without Christ for a while,  but it’s reaching a Tipping Point now.

tiping earth

How?  In what manner?  How soon?    I’ve looked at the idea of Tipping Points,  read about them, observed them.    It’s a complex arrangement of elements that waits for just the right circumstance – and when that last component comes into being –  boom!

What was before is now gone.

The culture has tipped irrevocably into another existence altogether.

Not all changes are Tipping Points, of course, and not all Tipping Points are called by that name.

bubble

Sometimes we call them “bubbles, ”  as though using a name for such a delicate ephemeral thing means it can’t hurt us.   (Student loan bubble,  currency bubble,  debt bubble,  derivatives bubbles,  housing bubble . . .)

Statistics,  statistics,  statistics –

tipping graph

Statistics can show us some things,  but it can’t tell us where on the graph we are – just that we’re getting close.     BEFORE  a Tipping Point s reached, it’s theoretically possible to pull  back from the brink,.  but I worry that it’s not likely.

Well, you get the idea;  let me just give one example of a Tipping Point that is forming,  but I don’t know what’s coming next.    What’s forming, from historical human experience,  are all the elements that will tip us over into  a deadly,  unfortunate,  all-encompassing violent Revolution.    All it will take is one surprising, unthinkable act of violence against,  say,  our president.

Celebrities, comedians,  and the actors and actresses who read news scripts and give us their opinions in front of  a camera have commonly and frequently called for the as^ sas sin nation  of the president.    It’s actually NOT funny and it’s not really “forgivable.”

How much of this can our society take?

The president has been in the crosshairs of the extreme left   (the progressives,  the radical democrats the socialists)   for quite some time now.

Even before the inauguration,  the leftists speculated and fantasized about his death.  Even  television  “news”  cable channels were  having irresponsible  discussions about “what would happen if (the president was dead and who woudl take over the government?”      And to justify making such a suggestion, the leftists are  speaking of “Trump Carnage”   and predicting that Trump will cause the “extinction of mankind.”       This is silly –  but it has also successfully placed this vocabulary into the minds of rootless,  unstable people.

Here are some of these unstable people acting out what they are hearing is now  “possible,”  acceptable behavior:

In recent  news,  shots were fired on Capitol Hill.
A day or two ago, a woman jumped over the fence around the White House.
Two secret service people took pictures of the president’s young son – while he was sleeping.    (?)
A secret service  person parked her car in a Brooklyn neighborhood,  did not lock her door,  and left her laptop inside as she walked away, so that it could be stolen.      (?)
Another  man jumped over the fence and was on the front porch of the White House for 16 minutes before anyone did anything.  (? )   According to reports he lingered around , looked into windows, stopped to tie his shoes . . . .
How many fence jumpers have there been?    Again,  recent  news –  the alarm on the fence surrounding the White House had its sensors removed — by the secret service.    (?)  The alarm sensors had been removed!
An intruder was found inside Pres.  Trump’s  Florida home (at Mara-Lago.   (?)             There are numerous reports of air space violation over his home,  planes and drones . . . .
There was a female secret service person who publicly stated that she would not defend the president, as is her first duty.
The secret service is not using its dogs anymore to help them secure the White House grounds.

What’s happening?     How many “intruders”  have tried to get into Trump Towers?  how about the one who was found with a pistol inside there?

The narrative against the president is becoming increasingly outrageous.   The Bill Maher popular celebrity:    “It Looks Like Russia ‘Installed’ ‘Trump and His Crime Family’ ‘To Loot and Destroy America.”

That’s not funny, Mr. Comedian.     That’s incendiary.       That’s marginalizing and demonizing a man –  justifying an  extreme response in the minds of some,  and it’s putting the president of the United States in jeopardy.

Given the daily all-pervasive violence Americans generally experience in their favorite television programs,  local news programming,   and careless office gossip,  violence-as-a-solution is becoming less and less surprising,  more and more commonplace.

tipping glass

It’s almost inevitable that we will reach some kind of  Tipping Point.

And we can   “cry over spilt milk”  but we can’t put it back in the glass.

As a teacher with “experience,”  as a mother with “experience,”   as a historian with a lot of study under my belt,   it seems to me that we might not be able to stop what we’ve started.   Not enough of our society will return to the values that built UP civilization in order to prevent the complete pulling DOWN of this civilization.

Pessimistic?   Yeah,  well,  there’s always hope.   Right?   No.   Not on our own.

A Saturday without Christ;  a Saturday with Jesus “dead and gone” into his Tomb:    It could have turned out badly for the first Christians.

Not on our own can we save this culture.

WEDNESDAY: WHAT THE HUMP IS

March 15, 2017

I hate that term  “hump day” to refer to that middle day of the workweek.;  it seems slightly  “not nice.”    Nevertheless,   I understand,    we work hard all week, look forward to the weekend and after that middle day of the week, Wednesday, we seem to have the “worst” of the week’s work hours behind us.

We’re “over that hump”  because we’ve been doing our duty.

By analogy,  we as  a nation have a big “hump” to get over, but I don’t know the duration of our work, so I don’t know  how long  we’ll even be tackling that “hump”  or looking forward to putting it behind us.

This is the hump,  a growing hump, actually   —

9 11 end

This is its message to us,  whether we’re listening or not.    Its principles are 180 degrees away from our own culture and values.    That means someone grasps your head and jerks it halfway around on your neck so you’re seeing something opposite of what you want to see.   Shariah is 180 degrees away from “democracy.”

I will try to dedicate Wednesdays’ writings to this topic.

With examples and illustrations.

Let’s start with the children.   I’ve already showed you photos of little toddlers learning how to cut the heads of their teddy bears off – with  a knife.     I’ve showed you little children training with guns that seem  too big for them.    How about these BOOM TWINS?

BOOM Twins s

The BOOM TWINS.   For real.    That’s a screen shot of their last photograph.   The accompanying article described how their father kissed them after this shot – kissed them good-bye.  They were fitted with ex pl^  osi ve    vests – and used in a baw^ming somewhere in the Middle East.

BOOM.   They’re all gone now.

As a former teacher of 12-year-olds, sometimes;  as a  mom of kids who used to be 12 years old;    and as a woman who was 12 years old once;   as a human being who hopes there are many happy  12-year-olds in the world now and in the future,     I find this repulsive,  evil, alarming,   and, quite frankly,  I’m frightened by the deafening silence coming from most of the world.

This aggressive political/religious movement has awakened and is advancing much faster than we have even noticed yet.       Recently,  these people planned to build a 220,000 square foot  mos^  que/religious center in an American community quite near where I live. The community voting overwhelmingly against it, something like 38,000 to 1,400.

The “religious” people promptly sued, crying discrimination,   and . . .  they’re not only building their new facility,  but the American city will pay for their insurance costs – and will pay for their $200,000 insurance deductibles in the future.

It would be very useful if we stopped to figure that one out.    It’s becoming a very big hump.

I’ve been saving these next photos for a while, and I don’t want to wait any longer.   Men and women are so complementary to each other.  God made us equal in value, equal in worth,  and happily,  of great help to each other.     A culture cannot put down one sex or the other and expect to function well or for very long.   Denigrate one sex and you weaken the whole culture.

Here is a very eager crowd:

Woman eager camera

They’re waiting for something to begin and they’re taking photos of the people coming up onto the platform.

There are bareheaded young men and head-covered young women.

And the action BEGINS!

Woman and cane

The man in brown is taking aim.   The woman is going to be caned, in public. Does it matter what her crime was?    Does it even matter how many blows she was given?   It is an abomination – to a Christian mind –  that this could even happen.   No one in the crowd wants to stop it.    Their minds are 180 degrees turned around from our minds.

Yes, it’s in Indonesia.   this time.   But here in America we are already having a problem with  “honor” killings,  faces destroyed by acid,  genital mutilations,   forced abortions,  forced rapes,  forced marriages . .  .  humiliations and beatings within those marriages.  Rapes, beatings, and bullying of Americans.    Please remember, for instance,  the little child in Idaho,  raped and beaten in her own apartment building, by a group of boys from this foreign culture, some too young to even carry out the rape.

When this caning was over with,  the women, in the pink headscarf,  had to be carried off.

Woman carried away

This is not a religion.    This is not even a political movement.

This is just . . .  Trash:

Religion of Trash.jpg

This is the new “movement”    that faces the Western World, formerly Christendom;  a Western World  that used to know how to deal with growing “humps” like this.

Humps can grow mighty big.

NOT LAUGHING

February 9, 2017

(A sobering observation.)

Oh,  I still laugh freely in my private life,   among my friends and family.     Lots of enjoyable, funny things  around here.    But I had a glimpse of the world “out there”  today, which  gave me a little wake-up.   Life is a serious matter.

I’ve been staying away from the entertainment-news  media lately.

fake-news

I can  spare myself the aggravation of looking for some  real information on these news programming shows.    Even the sports “news”   has quite a strong agenda leaking through.

The Communists won the Culture War a long time ago.   Communists, socialists,  progressives,  “alinsky-ites,”  leftists – whatever you want to call them.    But it was FUN for us.    We’re not the ones who invented “sex, drugs, and rock n roll,”  but we sure had fun when  rebellion and moral confusion was inserted into our culture and made to seem normal.       The things that corrupt and weaken a society were happily embraced.

com-man-80  If you’re a serious reader, you  might want to read their plans for us,  or at least  a summary of their Book.     Or you might want to explore the Frankfort School of Marxism which laid out their plans for us.*     You’ll find uncertainty and confusion are important   “Planks”  of Marxism.

And it’s all to further their main goal, which is the destruction of the West,  and the destruction of America.       Our heads are spinning because we don’t know right from wrong –  but the Revolution is clear-headed, and they know what they’re doing.

The writers and producers  of our entertainment-news media call themselves The Left and they call anyone who has a different idea  The Right, and they have plenty of words to smear The Right with.

We probably all woke up today to Google’s latest attempt to change our vocabulary.  “He who controls the vocabulary controls the discussion” – right?

def-of-fascism

Google gives us a new definition of “fascism”   – forgetting that fascism is a leftist phenomena,   a form of socialism,   as in the “National Socialist Party,” also  known as the Nazis.    This is a serious deformation of the English language,  but is part of the campaign to bend our minds towards their ideology.      They want to win!

Well, I knew all that.    Sometimes I just want to “skate” free for a while and not think about these things.     But I was reminded of just how serious all this is when I became identified as the Enemy this evening.

I had a busy, productive day – and I’m still happy about my computer working –  so I went to the library and took out a BBC series on DVDs that I’ve been wanting to see.    I won’t tell you the name  (anymore)   but it’s kind of the British equivalent of our FBI,  fighting domestic  crime and terrorism with all kinds of great technology.   I love that.

them

But in the first episode,   the enemy criminal was:  Me!   Myself and all the friends I know!   And the majority of American citizens.      Something we strongly believe in but the Left vehemently promotes.    We fight with prayer, strong prayer,  both private and quietly in public.

We don’t shout,  but we are shouted at.   We don’t throw things,  but things are thrown at us.     We don’t wave angry fists.  but angry fists are waved in our face.  We don’t threaten,  but we are threatened.     We don’t restrict people from walking on public sidewalks,  but we are restricted.

So guess who is the loony radical dangerous enemy to society?

I took offense, actually.     I took it personally.    Here is a whole popular TV series –  painting good people as evil.

I didn’t watch the rest of that episode, but I turned to the second one.

Same thing; different theme.     The traditional values that built up Western Civilization were treated as though they were some evil  ideological enemy of mankind.

And all the resources of the government are thrown at . . .  the people with traditional values.

In America,  the Leftists are exposing themselves as pretty out of touch with reality,  but they strongly believe what they are saying.  The children in college are being used to threaten and to be destructive and menacing against Conservative citizens.  Leftist judges overreach their authority and are treated as “authoritative.”    Professionals in various unions are gathering up their collective forces to obstruct and to take power.

They are all speaking words of division and disruption and hate.

I’ve studied revolutions formally in my university years –  and beyond.     Everyone gets hurt – even the ones being used by the revolutionaries.

It takes a tipping point to get a violent revolution started.  But it doesn’t take much to create that tipping point.

It always takes people by surprise.

“If only we could have pulled back a little”    and cooled off and began actually discussing issues, solving  mutual  problems,   acknowledging what we have in common.

But – with all that I’ve learned in the decades behind me –  this kind of attitude comes out of the values of Western Civilization —    the very values that we are allowing to be torn down.     (As predicted in 1917 –  “. . . russia will spread her errors . . .”   It’s not “russia” –  it’s the  socialism that overcame Russia.)

Didn’t we have some sort of election here that showed we wanted to return to those values?       One man can’t do it alone.

We didn’t elect a Savior.

We couldn’t.

.*     “Basically, the Frankfurt School believed that as long as an individual had the belief — or even the hope of belief — that his divine gift of reason could solve the problems facing society, then that society would never reach the state of hopelessness and alienation that they considered necessary to provoke socialist revolution. Their task, therefore, was as swiftly as possible to undermine the Judaeo-Christian legacy…..

“To further the advance of their ‘quiet’ cultural revolution – but giving us no ideas about their plans for the future – the School recommended (among other things):

2.  Continual change to create confusion
3.  The teaching of sex and homosexuality to children
5.  Huge immigration to destroy identity.
7.  Emptying of churches
8.  An unreliable legal system with bias against victims of crime
9.  Dependency on the state or state benefits
10. Control and dumbing down of media
11. Encouraging the breakdown of the family

“One of the main ideas of the Frankfurt School was to exploit Freud’s idea of ‘pansexualism’ – the search for pleasure, the exploitation of the differences between the sexes, the overthrowing of traditional relationships between men and women.”

My last post ended facetiously with  “Know Thyself.”          This one should end with:  “Know thy enemy.”

COLONIAL BEAUTY

January 16, 2017

(  Just one observation to correct our “modern” prejudices.)

“The development of Western Civilization  has allowed for the greatest manifestation of the highest human values.”

sao-paulo-church-400

My daughter visited the above church in Sao Paolo,   Brazil,  an actual result of  Western colonialism.   It’s an attempt to glorify God and show the beauty of His Kingdom with the use of higher philosophy leading man’s spirit upward,  with order and hierarchy,  and an architecture intended to reflect the beauty of heaven, focusing the eyes on the presence of God at the altar.

Yes, those floors are mirrors!   The edges of the pews are decorated with sweet smelling flowers for one of the many weddings that take place in that cathedral.   Hopeful promises of better things to come.

Western civilization is the culmination of Greek thinking and  Roman law and governance in combination with  Christian principles.       The enemies of the West have prevented nearly every citizen from knowing what those Greek philosophies are,  what the genius of Roman government was,  and the actual Truth mediated to mankind through the Kingdom of Christ.

In fact, each of these three elements are so thoroughly denigrated today, that it seems impossible to have anything good to say about them.

Now,   real Truth is identical with Beauty and with Goodness and with Purity and with Holiness  . . .   with God the Creator.

Historically,  wherever Western Civ has spread,  there has been the spread of  kindness and respect for the dignity of the human being:

Hospitals

Hotels and Hostels   for travelers

Safe, free traveling

Universities,  schools,  and literacy

Orphanages

Commerce and common methods of bookkeeping,  common laws of interchange

Advanced technology:  Farming;  Beer and Wine-Making;    Irrigation;  Grinding Mills

Scientific   inquiry,  discoveries, and knowledge

Architecture that uplifts the human spirit

The ideal of honesty in politics and peace treaties

Equality before the Law and the presumption of innocence when accused

Exterminate the Church and the Christians;    destroy knowledge of the past.

Then cross out all those things in red.   Because all those things in red don’t come to humans just because they are humans.      They existed here and there, perhaps,  but not all together in one civilization.

Just one geographical example:     When Christian colonialism came to   African nations, for instance,  it brought with it all those things in red.     (Please  don’t look to an imperialism divorced from Catholic Christian principles.)     When Christianity was kicked out by the enemies of Western Civilization,  African nations collapsed into anarchy, chaos,  poverty, starvation, and the rule of whichever tribal despot could gain power.

And anarchy can happen anywhere.

To follow after the dystopian future vision I wrote about in the last post,   how long do you think it will take for all our institutions to also collapse – without a firm commitment to the principles and values of Western Civilization?

To my Foreign Readers:  Perhaps this explains why supporters of Donald Trump are cautiously optimistic;  not that Mr. Trump will lead us into some wonderful future and solve all our problems.    He has very little power, in the face of our anti-West Rulers behind the scenes.

No,  there is optimism because perhaps the social and political climate will now allow those who understand the value of Western, Christian, European, American ideals to live freely and without fear of reprisals and destructive opposition.

Optimism.     Hard work,   but optimism.

Something for all of us to do!

PREOCCUPIED WITH PASSING PRINCES

January 16, 2017

(Musings of a War-Weary observer)

I’ve been sick for an extraordinarily long time.  This isn’t like me,  but I think I began to falter somewhere around mid- December.    Finally, after a “collapse” in early January,  I gave in to the best remedy of all:  a cycle of rest/nutrition/reading/rest/nutrition/reading    . . .

Along the way I learned a LOT!    And here’s where I’ve been in my reading.

Join me in the Jungle of Politics!

(Don’t  read every name!!!   Just scroll down to the end of this . . .)

There.    << Is all that clear? >>          My mind has been living  in present times and historical times simultaneously — because it’s fitting.   The past instructs the present.

Each name in these charts HAS A STORY!!    Each name is a person who struggled to win power, and they did it by various sorts of warfare,  alliances,  intimidation,   influence,   including putting out rumors and Fake News.     Not unlike our political campaigns.    We think we know something when we know some details about public figures.

200 years from now poor young students will be struggling with learning the historical details of the 2016 election and the (hopefully) uneventful passing of power into the hands of America’s next “prince.”

(Oh, I don’t really, actually believe we will have emerged from the coming Dark and Ignorant Bloody  Centuries that will be following this one so soon as “200” years.   It may be that we are in for a very long extended period of time before we regain our human senses, including  recovering basic life skills,   reverence for our Creator,  a dedication to  the preciousness of children,  families,   the distinct roles of women,  the importance of the intellect,  and all the other precious foundational notions of a civilization.)

But whenever the restoration of civilization happens,    or perhaps there will be merely a “reformation” of human civilization,   people (students)   will look back on  our present time as just an extension of  the rise and fall of kings and princes,  or premiers and presidents, same as there ever was.

Sic transit gloria mundi,  right?

We are so preoccupied with our present princes that they can lead us wherever they need to in order to preserve their power.      We need to  back off from the minutiae of American (and European) politics.     The issues are far bigger.

And there is far more at stake than whether or not our political or social opinion prevails.

I think we’ve let the ball drop as we live off the “fat of the land” in an appearance of peace and prosperity, while all the while forgetting to do the hard work and sacrifice of building and maintaining a civilization.    Civilization is never built with ease and laxity.   And it never comes with ignorance of the past.

God help us.   God is there to help us.

Quicumque!

CIVILIZATION ON A TIME-WAVE

September 7, 2016

A few days ago I was browsing my archives,  looking for something,  when I came across an old posting in my “WHAT’S IT?”  series.   (Soon as I learn how to add “pages”  to the Spruce Tunnel I’ll set up a whole page for all the “WHAT’S IT”s  –  they’re fun!  Right now you’d just have to use the Search function.)

Here’s the one I found:

chart-civilizaiton-jpg

Usually a WHAT’S IT  will be interesting, but have no name, no explanation.    But this one has a name, sort of,  and it has sort of an explanation too, if you’re a math genius.

This is a Time-Wave chart for civilization.  The explanation:

The Timewave theory.     . . . If you’d like  to prove or disprove it, you’d need to use some of this:
L(k) =  abs( ((-1)^trunc((k-1) /32))* (h[k-1 Mod64] – h[k-2 Mod64] +h[-k Mod64] – h[1-k Mod64])
  + 3*((-1)^trunc((k-3) /96))* (h[trunc(k/3) -1 Mod64] – h[trunc(k/3) -2 Mod64] + h[-trunc(k/3) Mod64] – h[1-trunc(k/3) Mod64])
  + 6*((-1)^trunc((k-6) /192))* (h[trunc(k/6) -1 Mod64] – h[trunc(k/6) -2 Mod64] + h[-trunc(k/6) Mod64] – h[1-trunc(k/6) Mod64])  )
 + abs( 9-h[-k Mod64] – h[k-1 Mod64] + 3*(9-h[-trunc(k/3) Mod64] – h[trunc(k/3) -1 Mod64]) + 6*(9- h[-trunc(k/6) Mod64] – h[trunc(k/6) -1 Mod64] ) ) . . .

Well, it goes on. . .     Someone used it to figure out the rise and fall of human civilization in general;  not any specific one, just the ability of humans to create a civilization.  What the author of this wave chart didn’t expect as he projected his calculations forward in time is that the line on the graph would fall to  ZERO!

Some day civilization will just end.    It won’t go on forever.    Humans, on their own, can’t sustain civilized life, at least in this Age of the World.

(The ancients determined that there will be Seven Ages of the World.     If I remember correctly,  we are  nearing the very, very End.    I shall have to compare this to Enoch’s Ages . .  . )

This structure lasted for about 1,400 years:

monte-cassino-in-ruins

Nothing says “end”  like seeing Monte Cassino in ruins!      We “had”  to do it, we said,  because the Nazis were there,  using it as an effective headquarters to kill the Allies who were defending civilization.    (The National Socialists – Nazis –  came out of barbarism,  not out of a civilized mindset.)     Like civilization, it had been sitting there, exposed, and vulnerable to destruction.

It’s been rebuilt, of course, and it’s so beautiful that it’s used as a school for artists who want to learn how to restore the beautiful things that were built in centuries past.

inside-2

So few of us, now, know the art of painting, architecture, statuary,  pargeting,  mosaics,   mixing colors,  lead glass and stained glass,  embroidery,   tapestry  . . .

inside

But if we have the will to re-learn all this, we could.

abbey

Monte Cassino Abbey today

Monte Cassino –  This was a great center of learning.    But long before that it was  the center from which a civilization was built after the Roman Empire fell and Pax Romana was no more.     People suffered,   disease and famine and war were everywhere.     Nobody believed it would happen or that it even could happen, that the world would descend into barbarism.

Pope St. Gregory the Great mused in his writings and speeches that this could be the end of everything,  the End of the World.

But for St. Benedict!      A man who desperately wanted to be holy and wholly a servant of God, apart,  away from all the troubles — but whose very holiness attracted like-minded men.   From their sanctuary in the midst of Italy  (very near where there was recently a big earthquake — the monks of Norsia there very much need your help . . .they’re living in rubble)   from their sanctuary around the beginning of the 7th century,  Christian principles and Christian action spread and slowly and steadily became the foundation for Western Civilization.

There would be NO civilization if it weren’t for the hard work of these Christian monks!

And we enjoyed the benefits of civilization for many centuries.    But, alas,  as we turn away from those Christian principles . . .  well,  check out that Time-Wave chart.

Civilization could  come to an end again.

Here is a story from the days of Rome,  a long time before it fell:

st-genevieve-stopping-attila

That’s Attila the Hun  (a barbarian)  on horseback.     He didn’t quite make it into Rome with his army that day.      He was repelled by the holy Christian authority of St. Genevieve.  451 A.D.

Oh, yes – a woman!      The Church has often produced strong women who in their own way, with strong skills,  have protected and prolonged civilized life.

A little more than a decade later,  she repelled another barbarian,  Childeric, attacking Paris,  464 A.D.          Though the barbarians were “at the gates”  and Christianity was still somewhat new and sparse,   St. Genevieve at least negotiated with this barbaric leader and had prisoners released and much more of the city saved.

See,  we’re not slaves to that Time-Wave.      Though the barbarians are at our gates again and Western Civilization seems to be diminishing everywhere – perhaps . . .   just perhaps . . .

Perhaps there will be enough prayer rising up, as at Monte Cassino . . .  Perhaps there will be men and women of valor to renew and restore  Christian values . . .

Perhaps God will forgive and be merciful again.

A MILLION MORE WHAT?

June 19, 2016

Have a “good Sunday”?    A day of rest?   Staying out of the heat?    Well,  here’s one angry RANT,  speaking up because the “heat”  is about to get you.  (The Spruce Tunnel will return to Robin Babies around here in a little while.)

bar dissolve er

A while ago I said I wanted to do a “data dump”  or rather a “photo dump”  and clean up all the notes and photos I’d been collecting but was too heartsick to use.

So then I decided I wouldn’t do it,  I wouldn’t   “dump”  all my photos on you.

But now . . . I’m just going to do my part, getting that information out there,  because  if Americans are like the people we see on American TV,  even on the entertainment-news channels,  then WE’RE NOT GOING TO KNOW WHAT HIT US.   I’m pretty angry about that.

I don’t mind being in danger as much as I mind being lied to about the danger we’re in.

Some of the following photos are from this article today,    and maybe from some other sources I’ll indicate.

But first,  a caveat:   I’m not one of those who thinks Teddy Bears and Candles will change anything.

MEME.jpg

Je suis Saccharine!     Indeed!    Right on!    “I’m just so sweet and caring.   Luv will change the world!”   (I wondered how long it would take after the Orlando massacre for the cameras to bring out the “spontaneous”  candles and teddy bears vigil.  This isn’t Orlando, but now we’ve got our own photos of sweet tears and caring.)

” A MILLION MORE WHAT?”            I don’t know . . .  I’ll start with some mild headlines.   (Have you been keeping up with these headlines – and hundreds more like it?)

Copies of actual headlines:

Somali Muslim Open Fire, takes Hostages in Texas Walmart
Muslim Man In France Enters Police Officer’s Home, Stabs Him Nine Times And Then Takes His Wife And Child Hostage  (Further headlines revealed that the man stabbed the mother many times in front of the toddler before he was stopped.)

Now,  we either DENY  Jesus, who is the Son of God,   of One Substance with the Father, or we disobey the warning.    (Or at the very least, let this sign tell you what to think.)

Then we have some recent quotations from around the Western World, collected by a commenter named “politicalbelle”:

The following quotes are not from fringe players. These are the top officials representing the Muslim establishment in America today.
• Muzammil Siddiqi, chairman of both the Fiqh Council of North America, which dispenses Islamic rulings, and the North American Islamic Trust, which owns most of the mosques in the U.S.: “As Muslims, we should participate in the system to safeguard our interests and try to bring gradual change, (but) we must not forget that Allah’s rules have to be established in all lands, and all our efforts should lead to that direction.”

• Omar Ahmad, co-founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the top Muslim lobby group in Washington: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Quran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”

• CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper: “I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future.”

• Imam Siraj Wahhaj, director of the Muslim Alliance in North America: “In time, this so-called democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing. And the only thing that will remain will be Islam.”

• Imam Zaid Shakir, co-founder of Zaytuna College in Berkeley, Calif.: “If we put a nationwide infrastructure in place and marshaled our resources, we’d take over this country in a very short time. . . . What a great victory it will be for Islam to have this country in the fold and ranks of the Muslims.”…

“. . .put a nationwide infrastructure in place . . . we shall take over this country (USA) in a very short time . . .What a great victory for Islam . . . “

These men of Islam are showing guts,  grit,  virility,  courage,  focus,  strength of purpose.   “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant.”  Is he lying about their purpose?

They tell us that the American Revolution was won at a time when only 10% of the American  colonists were actively seeking a break with England.

“Not every Muslim feels this way!”      That’s what the immediate push-back is.   But it’s a non sequitur.       There doesn’t have to be 100%   consensus among the Islamic colonists.

So .  I have so much  more…. but that’s it for reports of contemporary activities.    I shall retreat into Lessons From History, next time something comes up.

SHOULD WHY FIGHT WE?

June 17, 2016

Just some stuff;  just FYI on a Friday.

Well,  the words we use are all mixed up.    The words we hear are all mixed up.  If you don’t have an internal compass,  a well-formed conscience,  a spiritual anchor —  it’s hard to make sense out of things – or to even reach a conclusion that you can be sure of.

There are two ways to rearrange those words in the title:

Why should we fight

Why we should fight

Two mutually incompatible thoughts, when you think of it.

cross I’m going to tell you some Dark Tales for a while, because it’s Friday today.      Christendom honors this as the day Christ died;  for our sins;  to bring grace and a “fountain” of blessings to the world;  and to make peace between our souls and God, and hence, peace  between one man and another.  Christ died for the sins we commit against each other, and to take that away.

Christ died so we won’t have to have Dark Tales to tell.

Once again the Western World is under ACTIVE attack from the Moslem world.    Wave after wave throughout fourteen centuries,  these attacks have been repeated.   By turning our attention to the attackers  (see Sun Tzu on  identifying the enemy)  we have discovered horrifying details about our attackers, even when they’re not busy killing us.

Their use of women,  for instance.    Chivalry arose in the Western World, as a natural outflow  of Christian values.  ( . . .  not the stern male-dominance  of the Puritan,  Calvinistic version of Christianity . . .)     However . . .

Chivalry could not have arisen in the Moslem world.  (That’s a plain, declarative statement, worthy of the writing style of Ernest Hemingway.)

Women just sit and wait . . . .

The Western photographers who came across these holes in the ground call them Dungeons.   There were women in there.   Waiting.

Then they are taken out,  displayed,  chosen by some man,  used,  used up,  sold to the next man,  used,  used up . . .   for however long.   More comfortable in the dungeon, I would think, although down there is fear,  horror,  worry,   hunger, thirst, discomfort,  pain, and injury.

Women who have been rescued speak of repeated rapes,  beatings . . .  and then there is always this:

The man on the right, in white,  is standing in your way.   What you could be seeing is a woman,  all in black, lying on the ground.   Those little white dots on the ground?

Stones.

Like the stones in the hands of some of the men.

It should stir our hearts to realize that this is not an uncommon scene.   It’s “okay,” though.  It’s sanctioned.     That means it’s okayed by their law.     The ones who are attacking the Western World.

Why should we fight?   Or:  Why we should fight.

Or is it a little unclear:   Should why fight we?

Now America is being attacked.     Americans are deciding, I guess,  while the Barack Hussein person is doing all he can to hold us back:

O Islam saying

He’s wrong, you know.     Once te United States did fight back , to protect our interests  “on the shores of Tripoli” —  and that’s why the United States Marines were constituted.

And the Moslem pirates,  those Barbary Pirates,  stayed quiet for almost two hundred years.

I know some Marines.  I’m quite sure they are ready to protect us.

THE MONTHS OF JUNES – R-RATED

June 2, 2016

Still contemplating which R word to use (Recover, Restore, Rebuild) —  but in this post I really mean   R-Rated,  and unless you’re a child of the 20th century and inured to perversion and immorality,  please don’t go on.      I wouldn’t let my family read this.  It’s not . . .  ladylike.

So,   don’t.    You’ve been warned.

JUNE # 1

June to fix

The lovely month of June is here!     Blooming Gardens,  Brooding Birds,   and Blushing Brides .

Good things that celebrate love and life!

June was named for the Roman goddess Juno who represented  matrimony and childbirth.   Families are the foundation of any healthy society,  and the Romans honored family and family connections.

In Christendom,  June is also known as the month of weddings,  *    a time to celebrate Holy Matrimony,   the foundation for family and the setting for rearing children.    The Church adds one deeper dimension:     June is the month dedicated to the celebration of The Sacred  Heart.

When I entered the Church, this symbol –

sacred heart

–   with its red heart surrounded by a crown of thorns,  burning flames, and dripping blood   was “embarrassingly”  overly sentimental.  It took me a little time to accept the Intense (burning)  Love that Our Crucified Lord actually had – for me!

Now I understand the symbol,  but  like any human being,  I also . . .  forget.    I know,  but I don’t feel it all the time.     Sometimes I remember when I used to roll my eyes at such a symbol –  and then I have to think about the True God that came to die for me in order that I may have eternal life in God’s good Heaven, where no sinner deserves to be.

So the Church, in her wisdom,  has developed the tradition of  appointing the whole month of June for us to think more deeply on these things.

A God who loves and cares!   Deo gratias!

JUNE  #  2

Now, we live in two worlds.   St. Augustine called it Two Cities.    We leave the City of God now, with its Natural Seasons and Natural Law,  and look briefly at that other city;    it’s temporary and R-Rated,  much to our sorrow.

An attempt to command –

O Not gonna have mine

The man they have placed into the American White House has –  in  diabolic defiance to Nature –    “ordered”  this country to celebrate un-Natural acts.

(Want the official White House proclamation?    Go   Here . . . )

Defying Nature is Un-Natural,  as in a roaring lion rolling over on its back, exposing its throat to a bunny rabbit . . .

Lion sent

A bunny coming?

. . .     Un-Natural  as  a butterfly swimming under water;

. . .    as  a hippopotamus “boinking”  a giraffe –  or trying to.    (Boinking –  you know  . . .  poking into.)

Each creature is made with certain characteristics for which it is Natural to do the things it was designed for.   An ear is for hearing.   A mouth is for eating.   Other parts of the body fit into other parts of another body.

Yet this man who is known to have been a  member  of two   (TWO!)   gay bath houses in Chicago,     has taken this lovely month of June and is trying to PUBLICLY  besmirch it . . .

(TAKE NOTE:  I’m writing about observable, objective undeniable  practices) —

. . .   encouraging practices  which place a human mouth on another person’s . . . place where it’s icky to put it.     Or thrust one’s hand inside in order to find . . .   squishy substances.

Practices which always  result in damage to delicate tissue.      (As I said a few posts ago,  I worked in a hospital for four years.   Pediatrics, yes,  but sometimes I was pulled to help out in the emergency room.    You wouldn’t believe some of the things one man can do to another.)

Practices which encourage the spread of disease from one person to another.

Practices which according to government studies have increased the cost of healthcare and   burdened the economy with lost work days and lost productivity.  Government studies;  not someone’s “opinions.”

Practices which result in higher rates of depression,  psychological sickness, and violent abuse (statistically speaking)  of one’s partner in shame.    (so-called “spouse abuse”)   Just according to statistics.       Objective numbers.

Practices which violate the sanctity of the Natural family.

Practices which therefore a healthy society has always regarded with shame and  then outlawed – and punished.

The man encourages practices which violate his own religious preferences –

O presofus

—  and wishes citizens of this country to violate theirs.

Two Junes.   Two Months of Junes.

The contrast is clear.     And we can let it go,  or we can choose to live as human beings, repairing and rebuilding and  elevating our society into a state of dignity and respect.

bar dissolve er

Okay.  So maybe this post was X-Rated.        It’s hard to be ladylike and truthful about a 20th century-type society.

But NOTE AGAIN:   I speak of Practices;  actions,   not of persons.    Practices happen and can be objectively observed.

bar dissolve er

. *     Please don’t fall for the anti-Christian myth that puts forth June as the month for weddings because in the Middle Ages people were dirty and took baths only once a year when the weather got   warmer and so their bodies were less offensive in June.

Gullible college professors should be ashamed to continue that slanderous story in front of their uneducated students.

“ALL’S RIGHT WITH THE WORLD” – HUH?

June 1, 2016

(some backyard philosophy today,  from ducks to caesars.)

I wrote in the last post about an amazing new fact I learned recently:  that a bumble bee’s mouth is filled with little hairs!   Yuck.    But they serve as receptors for important little electrical signals put out by … flower petals!

Honestly!    All of  creation fits together in the most remarkable ways, one part made for the other.    Creation  works:

DUCKS to crop

It’s spring, and the ducks have returned to my backyard pond.   When they are resting like this they signal peace.  Peace in my backyard.   Peace.    Sometimes I’m consciously grateful for the time to watch them for a while.    They are there because “All’s right with the world,”  however temporarily for them.

Another sign of nature working well:

Bird closeup

Well, it works well for her, at least.   She’s made her nest – and laid her eggs now –  in the porch light just outside my front door.   That means, once again, that I can’t use my front door for a while;  and it means I have to duct-tape over the light switch or else the light bulb turned on  will set fire to the nest (as it almost did last year).

But for her – and we’re beginning to think this is Mama Robin – she has found a peaceful place to make a home and nurture her chicks.      “All’s right with (her) world.”

We can multiply this millions of times in the natural world.

However, when it comes to humans, who are part of the natural world,  well, we sometimes get in  the way of our own well-being.    Observe this excerpt from a famous poem . . .

The year’s at the spring,
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hill-side’s dew-pearled;
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in his Heaven –
All’s right with the world!

( by Robert Browning.)*   It’s a portion of a poem that presents the terrible life a young girl who has been oppressed and ground down by her society.    Society  (politics and culture and social conventions)  had gotten so far from the natural order of Creation that a young girl is cruelly victimized unto death.    That society was in the midst of its collapse.

collapsing building

Yet  look at the context in which this societal collapse took place!

“The year’s at the Spring” – as usual –  “the day’s at the morn” –  as expected –    “the lark’s on the wing” – as normal  –  All of nature works, just as the Creator  created it.     And what does Nature care of the risings and fallings of societies and civilizations — which have learned to ignore natural, commonsense ways of Truth and Reality?

We build ourselves up:

collapsing cards cr

Oh, yeah –  you just know what’s going to happen next!     One unstable house of cards;  one push;  one gust of wind;   one accident;  one deliberate undermining of the foundational layer.

Poof!    The house of cards that man has built lies in a heap – to be discovered, perhaps,  by archeologists thousands of years in the future.

There are certain truths about who and what Man is that cannot be contradicted for very long.    Natural laws  determine human growth beginning from a few cells to mature old age;  one of two sexes;  fresh and clean air, water, and food for optimum health;  and certain ways to associate with each other, summarized efficiently in the Ten Commandments, for instance.

Here is one Truth about Man:     “. . .  man was formed for society . .  .”  a partial quote ** from Sir William Blackstone, who wrote his famous volumes of commentary on the Law, as England knew it in the 18th century.

Man was formed for society. . . .     As such,  it is of utmost importance that  Man in his society   reflects the reality of Man in Natural Truth.     It’s common sense.   But if our society, or our culture,  departs from Natural Law,   then it begins to erode and to corrupt.

“All’s right with the world . . . “       Evidence seems to be that all is NOT right with our society.    Our foundations have been corrupted.  Our foundational layer has been undermined.   Poof!

But when I write about this in the weeks to come,   I’m writing within the context of  the existence of Natural Law at work in the Natural World.   That Natural Law applies not only to Ducks and Robins   (!)   but also surely to us human beings.

The  R word is very much on my mind these days,  but I don’t know if it should be  Recovery,  Restoration,  or Rebuilding.

This man had an idea:

augustus

Augustus Caesar  sought to restore the Roman Republic to its higher moral foundations.  He succeeded, somewhat,  and built the Roman Empire, which lasted a few centuries more;  not because its succeeding leaders were good and moral men,  but because the momentum of a restored higher  moral foundation made a few more centuries possible.

Good laws.   Good men.   Good moral foundation.

augustus senate

The new society worked —   “All was well” with society, as in the natural world.

For a while, at least.

But it can be done.

. * Pippa’s Passing    (Well-educated children used to have this portion of the poem memorized,  but I fear that they were not taught the irony it presents.   Modern society continued to collapse.)

. **  “But man was formed for society; and as is demonstrated by writers on the subject, is neither capable of living alone, nor indeed has the courage to  do it.”   (speaking, of course, of normal, healthy individuals)

A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL DIES (III) GOOD NEWS

May 25, 2016

(Who says “history”  isn’t interesting!!)

Well,  good news for you  in this third posting about the recent burning death of the little girl.   But the bad news is that the “good news”  happened a few centuries ago.

Everywhere the desert crescent-moon god  conquers, it’s accompanied by things like murder, burning, beheading,  crucifixions,  rapes, and slavery — as a policy of conquest.   You can read about new incidents every day.     They’re happening.

A thousand years ago, people of  three major  religions lived together in a peaceful arrangement in Jerusalem.   In Jerusalem!    They each had their section of the city and it worked.   Goods and information were traded back and forth.

A group of Christian men and women dedicated to taking care of the sick and wounded in the Holy Land built up hospitals in Jerusalem for residents and pilgrims.

kN HOSPITAL

They built hospices and hospitals all over.     Beautiful, clean,  open airy hospitals.   They came to be called The Hospitalers.   Otherwise known as the Knights of St. John.     They were dedicated to God and to the help of His poor and sick.   For two hundred years they did their work.

kn crusade map

This ended as  a militant variety of one of those three religions came and conquered the territory,  killing everyone off, taking over control of the city.   Although Christian Europe rose up in defense and created a safe “kingdom” in the area,  it was not organized or strong  or really very safe.

However, now once again pilgrimages were possible,  but not always safe, for the radical, militant conquerors threatened travelers.

And that didn’t last long, because another wave of militant conquering effort eradicated all Christian influence –  from their own Christian historic places.   No more pilgrimages!

(The equivalent outrage would be like IF Europe were to suddenly prevent all Muslims from visiting Mecca.    Terrible!  They have a right to visit their historic religious sites.    But so do Christians have a right to visit the land where Christ walked.)

The Knights of St John, the Hospitalers,   heard of the same things that we hear of today:  rapes and murders,  burnings and beheadings,  crucifixions,   enslavement,  forced conversions to the desert crescent moon god.

But they rose up and added to their work a second duty: the defense of Christian lands.

kn READY

First in Rhodes, then in Malta,  they kept guard.

kn only a few hundred

There were only a few hundred knights to guard Europe from this island outpost!   And less than two thousand other soldiers to help them in battle.

And one day . . .

kn came up that bay

. . .  one day  one hundred thousand militant islamic  soldiers sailed into this bay,  far outnumbering the Knights of St. John on the island of Malta.

100,000 men versus  about 2,000 Christian men.       One of history’s most dramatic, thrilling stories.

kn great enemy

This is Dragut,  the leader of the 100,000 —  legendary for cruelty, ruthlessness — and effectiveness.   I will not mention the name of the overall leader of this militant culture.  He is not “magnificent,”   unless you are trying to flatter him.

Now, you can find out how this story ended in books or on YouTube.  “The Siege of Malta.”   Or look up “The Knights of St. John.”      The weaponry alone is an  amazing story.

But  the whole era is good news –  good news because men rose up to defeat the advance of such a culture that was cruel and murderous at that time.   They heard of barbaric cruelty against innocent civilians — and they rose to act.

They knew about  babies born to Christian families were STOLEN from their parents;  then raised under severe spartan conditions; forcibly made to submit to that desert crescent moon god;    then trained to be the most violent and suicidal soldiers against the Christians. These are the  ghostly, ghastly  Janissaries you’ve read about in history books.

kn janissaries

The Christian men,  these knights,  understood that wave after wave of military advances needed to be stopped,  or all of Europe would descend into barbarism.

Here is a map of the advance of radical militant islam,  but the purple should be green:

MKn Map Purple

They are aiming to fill in the rest of Europe with purple now.  They’re doing it first by the movement of vast numbers of their young men into European countries.   They’re doing it by using European laws – for a while.   They’re doing it by using the tools of socialism which promotes self-loathing among Europeans and Americans.     And they’re doing it,  they’re conquering,  by out-procreating the native Europeans.     They know it and they’ve spoken boldly about what they’re doing.  They mock and ridicule and insult their European “hosts.”

But they will also conquer by their former means when it is possible.

So this  “good news”  is that, once,  Christian men rose up to oppose a group dedicated to such cruelty.      Christendom reformed itself and rejected “cruel and unusual”  punishments.    The Church never allowed forced conversions — and condemned and excommunicated those who did, wherever possible.    (Do not expect “Christian kings”  or kings over christian nations to be restrained by the Church.   Some kings,  some governments,  were evil.   Don’t get distracted.)

Good Christian men rose up,  once,  and halted the advance of the cruelest followers of the desert warrior crescent moon god.

We have work to do.    In my own country we can read of honor killings;    of acid being thrown in the faces of “disobedient”  wives;   of the commonly practiced  mutilation of female genitals;     of shootings and stabbings accompanied by the desert warrior cry stating their “god is greater.”

We have work to do.

We have learning to do.

Like,  “what do we really believe in?”

Anything worthwhile?

A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL DIES (II)

May 25, 2016

( A rant, of unanswered questions.)

In the last post I told you how this 12-year-old girl died.   And why.    You need to feel the impact of that story.     I don’t want to repeat it here in this post because I do;  I do feel the impact, even yet.

When I first read the story of the killing of this little girl,  I had some questions.    I wondered where is all the response?    Who is reacting to this story?  Where are the men who feel protective and want to rise up and avenge her death?

Where are the fists raised in defiance?

Where are the protestors?     Where,  at  least,   are the paid young demonstrators holding professionally made signs which they can’t explain?

Burning a little girl to death was barbaric and uncivilized.   Where are the civilized men who beat back barbarism and kept it at bay all these centuries?

Did God somehow invent a new type of human being that is guaranteed not to fall into barbarism?    Do good men now need to do nothing and civilization will just appear?

Or is our world at its end?

earth asteroid

Maybe we’re the same old human beings, fallen from grace,  full of sin and violence,  self-referencing in all our actions, in need of a Savior whom we cheerfully ignore. . .   and now in need of  a serious chastisement.

And maybe women are taught to act as though they were men;  and men act like women and  “get in touch with their feminine selves.”        And maybe children are not taught to respect and humbly  learn from those who have come before them;  their parents, for instance.

Maybe the enemies of Christianity have taught us to sneer at Christians:    “You’re supposed to luv everybody and turn the other cheek!”

Even from  within Christianity,  her enemies say:   “Christians have military conquest in their history too!”     Or:    “We all worship the same God.”

And from without the Christian experience, placed as head of the US:  “Don’t get on your high horse.”

O presofus

And we cower and are afraid to respond.

And those who rise up to conquer in the name of a millennia-old desert warrior crescent moon god take notice.

This week . . .  I have some examples.

And one more question, which perhaps should also be asked:     Are stories such as this little girls’  being suppressed?

Or stories like this?

burned-alive-12 yr old forgive them

Or stories like this poor man?

Our Own st thomas more

So many, many more . . . .

This happens every day,  by those who are on the march.    (That’s a military phrase, by the way;  not a literary metaphor.)

Good old news in the next post.

HAZARD DAYS OF MAY

May 8, 2016

(Last year it was flowers for every day in May;  this year has taken a more “hazardous”  turn.)

I’m beginning to hope this month goes by quickly.     There’s been death and dangers in varying degrees of  seriousness frequently – already this month!    Tomorrow is the first day of a new week.    I intend to make it a normal week.  (As if I had anything to do with it.)

Of course the death of a family member gets people thinking about . . .   well,  death.   (Two posts ago  — May Days Become “Personal”)

As some of you know,  Son is  a pharmacist,  an occupation  which is known to be so stressful that “heart attacks at a young age”  is an occupational hazard.   Pharmacists are crushed between red tape of government bureaucrats;   ever-changing, never-helpful corporate policies;  as well as insurance companies’ labyrinthine rules;  and many times a day they’re confronted by cranky customers who have only the pharmacist standing in front of them for the target of their wrath.     *

Sometimes the wrath is truly deadly, as happened to a friend of my Son, who had the pharmacy just a little down the road.     The pharmacist was a young man,  husband, and father — murdered.         It happens.

I sometimes think pharmacists should receive Hazard pay.

Sometimes the “hazard” takes an almost humorous turn.

Drive thru pharmacy

When Hubbie and I first visited  Son’s new pharmacy,  we hoped no one would take that sign seriously.   At least, don’t “Drive Thru”  right there.      But someone almost did a few days ago.   Brakes didn’t work.    The gas pedal did.

Bent column

Not too much damage to the outside of the wall,  but it made a mess inside.   Bent out one of the supporting columns.

No one hurt.   That time.

More has happened to Son this week, something that could have been a lot worse if not caught in time,  but he’ll be fine (I think) –   it’s more a mother’s lingering worry now.

However – Son and I do have a project going on over here that should remind us all that danger can lurk – even in our own homes.    (No photos),  but my front yard and driveway look like a tornado hit us.  The house is still standing,  but the contents of the garage are spread out all over – outside of the garage.

See,  we’re having a garage sale soon.  My first one ever,  by myself.    So Son emptied out the garage, removing things that hadn’t been seen in three decades!    We found “occupants”  of the eight-legged variety.   Bad enough!   (no photos – ick ick ick))    But Son identified one as a possible  brown recluse.   Or close enough.    Bug bombs, sprays,  hoses and brooms later,  we are reasonably sure the garage is reasonably safe.

But it makes you think.   It was a brown recluse which nearly took off the leg of Billy Graham several years ago.

And then there’s tonight’s  “hazard.”    I did it to myself.    If I ever have snacks,  like during a good NASCAR race for instance?   like tonight . . .   it would be nuts and seeds and dried berry things.    I tried a new variety tonight.  One known to be healthful.   Bitter,  but healthful.

SAMSUNG

Well, here’s a photo,  but there won’t be a label — wouldn’t want you to “try this at home.”

I mixed a generous handful in with my trail mix type of snack.

Felt something.

Read the instructions on the container.

Discovered I’m supposed to be very cautious.

“Take one ( ONE ) piece in the first hour.”

“No more than three per hour after that.”

Now I had to figure out what to do with that “generous handful” working away in my stomach.   I had some options,  but none seemed too attractive.      My head did feel a little funny.   Was I dizzy?  Was I getting faint?    There could be a dozen other reasons for that.  Was that a stomach ache developing?  Something in my back?   Oh, yes… there was  a lumpy sort of sore spot deep in my back . . .  .

Or maybe I was just panicking.   Not thinking too clearly,  I wrote a text to Son saying “I just did something silly.   I’m going to wait a couple hours and text you again at 10:00.   If I text you, everything is all right.”

I couldn’t decide if the text itself was silly,  so I thought I’d wait before I send it.   After all, NASCAR was on.    I drank a lot of water and iced tea.   I ate anything I could think of with a lot of fiber to soak up the . . .  uh . .  overdose.    I even made some oatmeal –  yuck –   not a good snack.    I had some Bolognese sauce simmering on the stove for tomorrow’s dinner.  I ate some of that too.

I’m glad I didn’t get around to sending that text.   The race was so good that I didn’t notice when 10:00 came and went.     My head began to clear up. but now  my stomach doesn’t feel so good.   I’ll probably be too sick to go to church in the morning.

bear seeing you

“Hazards” – lurking nearby

We all are going to face hazards of varying degrees of seriousness.   Life itself is a “terminal condition.”      We’re on a journey,  but we’re not exactly walking on a Red Carpet.

Hazards are everywhere!     Sometimes close to home.    Sometimes lurking, unbidden.

Sometimes self-inflicted.      Like  trying out some new snack food.

Who  ever would think that “food”  comes with “instructions”?

HUMAN LIFE: SUPERLATIVE IN EVERY WAY

April 28, 2016

I’ve been home for almost 24 hours now, back from my photo-scouting trip,    and wondering why on earth I still feel so tired.

Not really physically, I realized,  although we did our best to wear ourselves out each day.  I’m mentally and emotionally worn out.    Mostly because of this:

penske side truck

Inside a truck just like that was a very brave little boy,  trying almost successfully not to cry;   breaking  my heart because we had to say good-bye.     We had been together almost non-stop for two whole days, enjoying a “secret world” that only a grandma and a grandson can create.   We saw the world together;  were amazed at the same things together;  had the same shared feelings.   Bonded.

And then it was time to part and Daddy would be driving that truck  . . . away.    When you’re five years old, you know it has to happen,  but you feel sad about it.  When you’re many-decades + five years old,  you know it has to happen,  but you’re sad about it too.

map for snow

Daddy and Cooper had to continue westward along that red line.  Grandma had to re-trace the blue line.   (There will be  a southern swing to the otherwise straight shot across the country due to April snows along I-70 and I-80:    13-16 inches over mountain roads!   In a truck full of precious family cargo.

In that green spot in the middle there is where I got LOST in the woodlands of Indiana for an hour or so.   On foot.    Halfway through that little adventure,  every time I opened up my cell phone, it gave a pathetic little  “meeep”  and indicated it need a battery charger.    Which made me a little uneasy, being so far away from my car.

But the three of us had many interesting adventures in Terre Haute, Indiana, where we had met for a couple days.  Good stories and photos coming up here in the Spruce Tunnel, but I wanted to begin with that little “human” type experience of saying good-bye to your loved ones.

Because what I was doing out in the woodlands in the middle of Indiana, on foot,  is looking for Indian mounds,  from people who lived there about 2,100 years ago.   People just like us in almost every way.   Families.  Family love.  Family needs.   Family relationships.

Take a mental trip down the timeline of human history.    Make a mental stop every 2,000 years or so.      Technology changes.  What our clothes are made of changes.     What our buildings and homes are made of changes.   How information gets passed around changes.  How we obtain our food changes.   How we travel changes.

What doesn’t change is that we live in small family units within a larger tribe or clan,  or more artificially:  within a larger nation.    Again:     Families.  Family love.  Family needs.   Family relationships.

Put me in a shelter along a shore of a northern sea.   Put me in a cave in southern France.      Put me in a longhouse in the north American forest.  Put me in a fine stone castle.  Put me in a little suburban home.

But part me from my grandson  and I will have the same feelings in any Time.    Part us from our loved ones:  a grown child marries;   a parent dies;   a spouse dies;   a friend moves far away.   We will feel love and loss.

No matter what Time is your present Time –   it’s the people in  your family,  your close kin, and your close friends that matter to you; and  how you treat them and love them  that defines you as a person.

After I waved good-bye to Cooper and his Daddy,  I went backup to my hotel room and immediately began beating myself on the head –  “I forgot to show him this!”    “I forgot to tell him that!”      “I should have done this with Cooper.”      “I could have said more of this!”

I could have – I should have –  I wish I did . . .

Silly,  I know.    But it’s because it matters.

(Fun stuff coming up in the next post.)

ADDENDUM TO THE PRINCE’S IRE

April 15, 2016

Here is a photographic P.S. to the last posting:

waiting to see a doctor

Waiting to get an appointment

The line wound down the block and around that building.      Look upon them with compassion . . . and a bit of fear.

Now,  I don’t believe for a minute that the Saudi prince of yesterday’s posting is truly “filled with ire.”   He has enough present problems of his own.   It is my own ire that I’m projecting, of course.

But nevertheless,  this is personal   I know that,   because of the generosity of this prince, the new state-of-the-art facilities at the Cleveland Clinic gave Hubbie two or three more years of life.    I know that.     You wouldn’t believe how precious those extra  years were.

I also know that when I myself need the services of the Cleveland Clinic,  I will be too sick to drive myself there, as I had driven Hubbie all those years,  but that isn’t what bothers me.    What bothers me is that those services which I would need won’t even be available  for me.

The photo above shows us a possible future for Americans.  It was taken a few months ago in China,  a nation of socialized medicine;  a  nation that is making great discoveries in the field of medicine;  a  nation that is creating technological  and pharmaceutical medical advances.

A nation  which is bankrupting itself because its government is trying to pay for all this – and it can’t.  No government can.

The people  in that line, so early in the morning,  are waiting for a chance to get a ticket for an  appointment to see a doctor at a major hospital in a big city.    The attached news article told about an “enterprising” young man who makes a  good living selling “tickets” for those appointments at a higher price.  We call it ticket-scalping.

He says if you are well off,  then you can afford to pay for  a ticket to be seen much sooner than all these people in line.    You can pay more for the privilege of having a doctor see you,   without weeks or months of waiting.

A socialist country.  A socialist-democratic society.   You need to be wealthy enough to get good and prompt  medical care — in every single country where it has been tried.

This is personal to me for another reason:    America will have its elections soon.   For more than forty years,  the “joys of socialism”  has been taught in American schools.   Without doubt,  marxist socialism has taken over schools and universities,  music,  movies,  and the entertainment-news media to such an extent that younger people do not even recognize the meaning of the political slogans they are taught to hurl.

sheep-forward

Follow the Slogans!

As one person put it in a lecture I heard:   “In Journalism schools,  socialism is so pervasive that it is invisible,  like the air we breathe.

“Huh?   Socialism?   Big Brother?    What’s all that?”

Young people at a recent    (American!)   political rally —

FLAG

He and his crowd don’t understand the consequences of what they’re promoting.

So that’s a problem.  Name-calling and catch-phrases are used to prevent free and open political dialogue.     And just try to oppose these young people!!    (And some not-so-young.   The  “aging hippies” called The Sixty-Eighters were Lenin’s “useful idiots”  in the ’60s cultural-socialist revolution around the Western World!)  Try to oppose them, try to assert another opinion  — and then duck!       All sorts of names and accusations will be thrown at you.

How did socialism win the cultural revolution?   Why is the American Constitution beside the point,  an annoying impediment to social change?

SAMSUNG

…And if  not,  “Russia” will spread her errors.”  (1917-2017)

The Western World was taught, instructed, enticed,  tricked, and intimidated into giving up all those values which created its own civilization.    It was a prolonged and powerful process which promised great things – and besides,  it was sold to us as Fun!  and Freedom!

Who wouldn’t want to get on board – and try out some of these formerly forbidden social behaviors!!    (Ever wonder why the Leftists in this country are so fixated on reproductive activities?)   The Marxists promised to “sell us the rope that we will hang ourselves with.”

If you don’t know who this man is,  we are already lost.

Khrushchev and shoe

We will bury you!!!

So, no need to discuss the consequences of such imposed social changes –  just follow the Fads, the Slogans,  the Name-Calling, the Celebrities,  and the erroneous, immature logic.  ‘Cause then you’ll be free!  And the government will give you free stuff!

Like socialized medicine.

Get ready to stand in lines.

CHRONOLOGICAL SNOBBERY, ELVIS, & the F-35

April 5, 2016

Okay,  I promise to tie this all together;   and don’t reject the remedy until you think about it — for a few years.   Ha!     Sorry for the length – this is almost “stream of consciousness,”  a literary form that made some people famous, right?

campaign

Things aren’t working right and we’d better hurry and find out why —  before our politicians tell us how to fix things,   according to their own agendas.

Time to go to Confession.

But before you can do that,  you have to make a good Examination of Conscience.  I mean,  some wrongdoings come right out and bother you.    But others are hidden there, and you have to learn and think about it before you acknowledge you might be guilty of these other things too.

Well, the sin,  the defect,  the wrong-thinking,  the missing-the-mark, the stupidity,  whatever you want to call it,   can be called Chronological Snobbery.   It has devastating consequences to the individual, to the friends we have,  and to the society   which we live in.   It’s a sin that truly causes harm.

And picking the right presidential candidate is not enough to fix it.

I’m going to ramble a bit –  and start off with a photo of a Scorpion:

air base

Yeah!

We all grew up in an atmosphere that fosters this wrong-thinking, so much so that it’s like the air we breathe, invisible and “normal.”     The “air I breathed in” as a child was on the edge of the Illinois Prairie –  I love this place — and right near our home was O’Hare Air Base!  We could roller skate or bicycle to the fences around the air base and watch the newly invented jets take off.   Try to identify them.   (The Deltas were the easiest, of course,  but I’m sure we saw these Scorpions.)

And we also tred to retain our hearing after a jet screamed off a few hundred feet overhead.   (They didn’t have to turn off their after burners in those days.)    It was a chest-pounding, ear-splitting, almost overwhelming experience.  Loved it!   Vivid memories!

In this area, on the outskirts of Chicago were many factories, and many fathers came north with their families to find work and make a decent living.      In our area, most came from either Mexico or from the hills of southern Tennessee.

Elvis

That’s where I first heard of Elvis.    My friends from Tennessee had such a strong accent that it was hard to understand what they were saying for the first few months,  but after school — oh, my —  it was easy to “understand”  the music  they sang on the bus ride going home.

It was a sound I had never heard before, but it touched us all deeply.   Emotional,  religious,  family songs and love songs.   And these Tennessee friends talked about someone they knew from the region they had come from,  some were even related to him, cousins,   second cousins,  and all that complicated complex inter-relatedness of southern families,  a someone named Elvis, and they sounded proud of him.     (His home was Tupelo, not that far away.)

A few years later,  he “exploded” onto the Big Screen and then everyone knew about him;  but I remember him for   how  he was talked about before….  a “cousin,”  a member of an extended family.    A family member.  A good boy with a lot of talent.

But  Elvis was crushed by his fame . . .  because we were in a new era.

skirts two

These girls are a little older than I was,  but my friends and I did  our best to imitate them.  I loved wearing these skirts!    We were all told we were special because we were “teenagers.”    Now, that was fun.   Exciting.  “Important.”   Flattering to our growing egos.

But “teenage”  was also an absolutely ARTIFICIAL and cynically-created demographic group   which not only aided “Madison Avenue”   and kept the money flowing,  but it was also a powerful aid to  the “progressive” revolution.    Flatter us,  we’ll follow the trends,  tell us how we’re supposed to have fun,  what attitudes we’re supposed to display — and we’ll join your side for “Progress.”

Such emphasis on “Progress” is a tool for World Domination.

Dumb kids, we were.   Never before in the history of families have 12-20 year olds been separated out from their family and told they were different and special and misunderstood and therefore they ought to feel separate and apart from their own family,  rebellious,  rejecting the guidance of their own parents.

Don’t take away our fun!

dance

We’re not “like” our parents.   Families are there only to serve us until we’re old enough to leave.   Walt Disney told us  “You are the Leaders of the 21st Century!”   I heard that over and over again.   I never asked “why?”

We were now dancing to a deformed and fame-crazed Elvis,  no longer a good boy,  no longer acting like his family would have wanted him to.     His end is a reflection of our present-day culture:  self-indulgence,  materialism,  immorality . . . .

bad elvis

Was Elvis harmless fun?    Compared to what has inevitably developed now,  it seems harmless.   But it wasn’t then, and it certainly isn’t harmless now.

We know the downward roller coaster Elvis was on.   As was all of our society, all our culture.     We simply let go of values.

Chronological  Snobbery

Being  aware that you are a “teenager” –  whatever they told us that meant,  whatever fun and privilege  that idea gave us —  being aware of this,  is snobbery:   “My age is the best.”  “My era is the best.”     ” My demographic group is the best.”

Chronological Snobbery means that you think your Times are the best, most progressive, most beneficial to mankind era that ever was.    You are the culmination of all of history;  your Era is what history has been leading up to — and the past must be repudiated completely.

The F-35

That’s a real heart-breaker.     I’m not even going to put a photo of it up here.  It’s a real embarrassment to the people of America.

Like Elvis,  the F-35 is a bloated, costly, unworkable product of a period of time that has jettisoned all the Good Values that had made our country great –  all the wisdom of the past;  all the wise restraints of the past;  and all knowledge of how humans should live together.

We think our age is so wise,  and in our snobbery (our conceit)  we have become really, really dumb – like children without parents,  harmful to ourselves and harmful to others and we do not accomplish what we set out to do, but only make things worse.

(I’m thinking of a few presidential candidates here.)

Before this decade,  we had built powerful and effective fighter jets that actually did help protect our country.  Now we cannot even build this super-dooper,  ill-conceived,  poorly planned,  all-purpose fighter jet.   It is, so far,  three times over cost  (recently estimated at more than $160,000,000 per jet — how would you  like to be responsible for flying one of those!)   and it is not yet safe to fly.

Elvis.   The F-35.    Teenagers.      Society broken down into separate demographic groups which have nothing to do with the character of the individual and which cannot accomplish what it needs to.   Progressive Politics that is trying to lead us to a bigger, better,  super-dooper, ill-conceived world governance.

That is:    The needs of the individual be damned.     Personal Freedom be damned.  Families be damned.   National sovereignty be damned.   Christian values be damned with all its old-fashioned care for the poor and the weak and the helpless,  the talk of equality before God,  its clinging to the principles of Natural Law which apply to all mankind, its strength and cohesiveness . .  .  and its ability to prepare us for the next world.

Ooops,  I’m getting long.

Oh.  The “Remedy.”

Recognize our “Chronological Snobbery.”   It truly is a “sin” that causes harm.    Admit we don’t know much because we have rejected the values and wisdom of the past.   The way, way past.    Realize that pop culture has nothing to teach us, and only corrodes our thinking.    Accept that none of our Rulers,  none of our leaders, none of our politicians will be the source of our  healing and possible resurrection of our society.

Values and wisdom of the past.   The way they did it.

If you understand a little about the “sinfulness” of Chronological Snobbery,   and IF you are an atheist,  an agnostic,   or a Protestant,  I guess you can pretty much excuse yourself,  pronounce your own forgiveness –  and continue on.

But those “isms”  didn’t build up Western Civilization.   Just a historical fact.    You know that Western civilization is rooted in the Catholic Faith –  until the break-aways in the 16th century . .  .  and then you can  read in history books what happened to us.

For me,  GK Chesterton told it best:     “The Catholic Church is the only thing that saves a man from the degradation of living in slavery to his own century.”

I don’t like slavery,  mental or otherwise.    Building a civilization takes constant hard work, effort, purpose,  and self-lessness,  based upon traditional, universal values.

Otherwise,  there truly is “degradation.”

Observe it all.   Sheeeesh!    We really can’t build a decent workable fighter jet anymore!

PIETY, PATRIOTISM, AND VALOR

February 24, 2016

“When a man doesn’t see something, he cannot fear it.” (  from The Thirteenth Warrior)

“Fear precedes valor.”   (me)

binocluars

You have looked through binoculars.   You know the little wheel that you turn (slowly)  to bring things into focus.

Well, it happened to me today.   I was watching my favorite movie (2nd favorite?)  this morning,  “The Thirteenth Warrior.”

Muslim and previking

I believe the western world needs a good dose of this movie – perhaps “thirteen” consecutive viewings . . . until you get it.

As I watched,  I was thinking of the history of northern Europe,  the timeline,  and these Scandinavians in particular.

And it was like my “binoculars”  clicked into full focus on this timeline.

What pushed the wheel was the juxtaposition of this movie with three recent news* articles  concerning Sweden –  the probable location of “The Thirteenth Warrior.”

1.  One headline read:  “Swedish Police Admit That There Are 56 No-Go zones”  for them in Sweden.   Swedish police are NOT ALLOWED to go into many places in Swedish cities and towns.    (Oh,  this goes on in other European countries too . . . )

2.   Then I remembered this recent  photo:

SAMSUNG

Yes, the pre-Vikings in the movie wore “skirts” – or more properly what we’d call kilts — allows for much greater freedom — uh,  in battle, that is.   These are NOT kilts.  These are Swedish men (I think;  other northern men have imitated them recently)  – and they are showing their “solidarity”  with women.   They are marching down the street in women’s skirts and hose, in public,  while their own women are being attacked and raped – and killed  by . . . “foreigners.”      (I will spare you some of the photos)

(Doesn’t take much valor to talk and make signs.)

These “foreigners”  are the invaders who have publicly declared more than once  “YOUR WOMEN ARE OURS!”   And the northern European white men run for their . . . skirts.

3.   Headlines yesterday:   “Study shows that Swedish men will not come to the aid of a Swedish woman who is being raped.”

Huh?

Now please take note:   It is true that the foreign invaders of Sweden are from southern countries and are part of the barbaric Muslims which exist today.   Therefore they feel superior to any other race or religion or society.   (But it is not their religion, necessarily, which makes them barbaric.  At the time portrayed in this movie,  the Islamic world was advancing in culture and literature and visual arts and science . . .  a little bit – until it was brought to a halt….)  —

muslim among the vikings

Now, by contrast,   the hero-narrator of “The Thirteen Warrior”   IS a Muslim, one who is cultured, refined, educated, civilized.   His intelligence and valor saves the pre-Viking society from a barbaric enemy.

Presumably these (men in skirts)  are the descendants of the Warriors in “The Thirteenth Warrior.”       Although the movie takes place in a time of around or before  800 A.D.,   the roles and functions of people within their societies have not changed.

Any man is made greater by his piety,  his patriotism,  and his valor.

So what about that Scandinavian timeline?

The pre-Viking Warriors in the movie had patriotism,  they fought for their patria – their families and lands.   They had piety;  they had a simple, unwavering faith in their gods, and knew their place before the gods.  And they certainly were brave.

The movie takes place before St. Olaf came to them.  Before St. Urhu came.  Before St.Bridget and St. Catherine,  and all the other Catholic saints were born,  named and unnamed  –  but when the Faith came,  Scandinavians were no longer the  uncivilized, barbaric  “Vikings”  of our historic imagination.

Until another king came along — and by decree took the Catholic faith away from them — well, I  know how it happened in Sweden.   This king**,  with no piety or  patriotism, preferred the   approval of Important Men of   Northern Europe to the south,    and the wealth and the status that their approval gave them.   In order to be “in league” with them, literally,  he had to give up his faith and the faith of his countrymen.

Might makes right, eh?

And so we have the devolution of society today.   Patriotism is whatever your ruler says it is.   Piety is — a troublesome idea from the past.

And valor?

Why?  Why bother?

.

This isn’t the end of our story, I don’t think.

It’s hard to put human nature down for long.   And human nature is made for piety, patriotism, and Valor!

.          Bar Cross in middle

*Because   the Rulers of America have given up our right to the Internet,  it may soon be illegal according to international law to link to news stories.    I will begin now, by refraining from giving you original sources.    I will “paraphrase” from personal knowledge and memory.  (56 places?  53 places?)

**Gustav Vasa    You could look up how he and his kind did this.

The word “fear” of course is the healthy, necessary fear one must have for those determined to conquer you.   But what you don’t know about the enemy,  you cannot fear.

This movie is similar to the book by Michael Crichton called Eaters of the Dead –  which in turn is inspired by Beowulf, which informed the character of Europeans for many, many centuries.

We have apparently forgotten . . . much.

4. IOWA CAUCUS – CONCLUSION

February 1, 2016

So after the political contest in Iowa and I suspect after the political contests in the other 49 states,  I think this is what we will know for sure:

Questions Book

Because mankind cannot give itself the answers.

A DEATH

January 13, 2016

(a political post)

So,  I’ve been gone a few days,  a lot on my mind.  A death in the family.

a coffin

To talk to you about “who” died, would reveal too much about me personally, and would expose struggles with all the variegated and complex memories that were stirred up.  Suffice it to say that I did love her.

And she was nearly a hundred years old.

She was born in a different world, a different age,  a different culture.     She was born shortly after Civilization had taken a tumble down a few stairs, finding itself on a lower level in new circumstances.     The  Titanic,  that crown jewel of human defiance against Nature, had just sunk.    The Great War had just ended,  further proving that we were not only not invincible through our scientific and technological achievements,  but showing us that  our science and technology had given us the ability to be savagely and horrifically murderous against our fellow human beings.

This was such a huge psychic blow  that it can be said the Twentieth Century started around this time.   No more wide-eyed innocent “progress.”

The Twentieth Century began as a decadent and degrading mish-mash of sexual immorality,  political brutality,  and the institutionalized economic  oppression of citizens to a scale never seen before in (recorded)  history.

This is not a symbol of “evil” —

a a highclere

It’s actually a symbol of achievement, and of a society in which the various social classes  had a working relationship – employer and employees.    Some of you will recognize this structure as Highclere Castle,   the home of George Herbert,  Lord Carnarvon,  who discovered King Tut’s tomb, so to speak,  and which was also the setting for Downton Abbey.

And so  we learned there were more issues that went on above and beyond the employment of 60 or 80 or 100 people who would otherwise be destitute.    There were issues of social change.

There is a connection between the death of my particular family member and the residents of this castle during the time of Downton Abbey.    The connection is all the social changes that  both  a real person  and fictional characters experienced.

As it turns out,  the social changes in this clueless, soul-less century did not come about naturally,  but were imposed from outside each society by those looking for power.   I like to read about this post WWI era because the radical social changes then were every bit as shocking and unnatural as the social changes imposed upon the world I grew up in, social changes which plummeted Civilization the rest of the way down those stairs.

As a young teenager I asked the same questions as the fictional servants asked of their world.     “Why is this happening?”    “It makes no common sense.”    “People are getting hurt.”   “Why is there so much social unrest?”

So let me quote Daisy,  the young kitchen helper at Downton Abbey:   She said:  “It’s the way of the modern world.   If more and more of us protest,  then things will change, won’t they.”

Protest for the sake of change.   Change for the sake of change.

It’s what my almost-hundred year old family member saw in its first stages.   It’s what I saw in the ending stage.

a power fight

Although good social changes were already occurring naturally,  certain elements saw their opportunity and imposed their slogans and their methods onto some people, and produced revolutionary changes to their own liking.

“Power to the People!”

And when it was done,   Power was exerted in the name of the People:

a army

Once the people were stirred up with slogans,  and marched to create a new social order,   that’s exactly what they got.   A new social order of imposed social changes.

A new social order, a People’s government;  a People’s republic –

a chinese army

Those “useful idiots,”  as Lenin called them had served their purpose  —

a rev dead

Today,  social order is not  often imposed through rioting and revolution,  but gradually, slowly, softly through the means of programming,  conformity, political correctness, authoritative watchfulness of ubiquitous surveillance,  fear,   quietly herded into the proper direction through unlimited rules and  regulations.

The servants tried to make sense of why the majority of people were allowing this to happen.   I wondered why my parents’ generation were allowing this to happen.

It looked like everything had come apart.   Society had lost its mooring and didn’t know where to turn for answers.   People were conveniently  told there were no answers,  no objective truth that applied to all mankind, no natural law, no divine law that made us all equals.     An immoral,  uneducated self-referencing populace is so easy to control.  Convenient, and oh, so clever.

Behind the changes was not the guidance of a loving Creator,  but the subtle hand of imposed social and political changes.    A “hand”  that killed more than a hundred million of its own citizens worldwide in the process of “social change.”

In that coffin,  almost a hundred years of life that witnessed  almost a hundred years of godless change.

Many complex and variegated memories.

There is a lot to mourn for today, as we attempt to rebuild . . . .

VIEW FROM A SPEEDING TRAIN — OCTOBER IN REVIEW

October 27, 2015

Normally,  I’m pretty unflappable.

But I’ve been “flapped”  by a lot of things lately.    It’s not Writer’s Block here at The Spruce Tunnel.   I’m writing a lot.  It’s just that by the time I try to post something, days have gone by because more serious issues have come up.   And I thought recently that these “issues,”  both public and private,   both in my personal life and issues out there,  have all kind of knocked me “off the rails,” as the saying goes.

The whole month of October has been like watching the world go by from the windows of a speeding train, ready to go wildly off the rails.

train tracksI’ll be all right pretty soon.   That I’m posting at all is a sign that I’m hanging on to the rails.

But meanwhile,  I’ve missed a lot.     I’ve missed writing about important personal and historical anniversaries and events . . .    Sometimes I say,  ‘Join me for a walk in the Spruce Tunnel,”  and then I show you pretty pictures from the Tunnel.  But now I’m going to say,   “See those black windows in the little train?   Join me for a wild train ride as I try to catch up with the world before October is completely gone.”

It all started with my birthday, at the end of September.  With my cake, specifically:   (with a darkened view out of those “black train windows.”)

I remember it!      Beautiful, no?    (No.)     “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.”    Not only was this the very, very tasty, rich chocolate cake that I wrote about previously, home-made for me,   but it was also “home-decorated.”     Yeah.     Beautiful.

It is the memory of this that sustained me through the following weeks.

October is a month of significant religious significance.  Here is a painting of a great battle —

Train Lepanto jammed ships—   wall-to-wall battleships at Lepanto, off the coast of Italy,  not very many of them Christian.   Yet another Islamic onslaught against Europe in their never-ending Wars of Expansion.    Europe won.    Otherwise Europe would be worshiping at the sign of the desert crescent moon god —  the image which got the young men at the time of the Maccabees into so much trouble.

The battle was won with the help of prayers and processions called for by Pope Pius V —  Saint Pope Pius V —  which included a call for prayers with the help of the rosary,  that great retelling of the Gospel and personal immersion in its power.

It is said that there was a business meeting at the Vatican on the final day of this battle, and that the pope got up from the table, walked over to a window, and said with great joy,  “This is not the time for business”  but for great thanksgiving and rejoicing, for the battle has been won.      This,  long before there were technological means of up-to-date communication.   He knew.

Train rosarySo, from the dark windows of that speeding train,  I was aware that October is the month dedicated to the rosary, and to its power.     It’s a serious dedication, meant to deepen our habit of prayer.

Then there was another anniversary that I watched, passing by without notice here:

Train fatima70,000 witnesses present in the fields that day,  and an additional estimated 20,000 who saw the Miracle of the Sun from the peripheries, from  windows in houses in nearby cities;  witnessed by believers and witnessed by very decided unbelievers, scoffers of everything Catholic,  determined to prove that a so-called miracle could be explained away by scientific thought.

But they couldn’t.   Of course we don’t think the sun actually approached the earth on that day,   but something happened that looked very much like it.    It was so much more than an optical illusion,  and given for the very powerful, fearsome mystery of it.    More happened that day to the people, to their clothes, to the muddy fields . . .   but I’ve written about it before, and the story is easy to find on a Search Engine:  October 13,  1917.   And the warnings accompanying the strange miracle.

Warnings which involve the dissolution of our civilization,  witnessed by “me”  as that black-windowed train sped through October, 2015.

Today,   the clear teaching of the Catholic Church has not changed,  but it is very much out of focus —  especially if you get your news from the entertainment-news media on television or through bloggers.

Train st peter'sSt. Peter’s is still there. . . but sometimes those within it can blur and obscure that spiritual authority and that moral voice which ought to be crystal clear.    “Those within it”  took part in a synod on the “Family.”     It was not about the family.    It was about “how far can we change church practice to make it resemble the socialist disruption of the family” — a necessary task,  because  strong,  intact  family units  get in the way of strong, centralized governments.

(That would be the old “divide and conquer” —    Divide the families into individual demographic groups, and then control each demographic group:  men versus women versus teenagers versus children versus babies and above all:  parents versus their own unborn children.    Then make it all “fun” and “modern”   — Promote  sexual fun and liberation,  sexual immorality of all kinds,  sexual envy, sexual perversion, and sex-without-consequences.)      Presto!!   No strong  families!!

(Uh,  you have read the Communist Manifesto, haven’t you?   The Humanist Manifesto?     They told us about all this ahead of time.  They needed to break down society before they could “transform” it.)

Not a pretty picture from out of those black windows . . .   but if the train goes fast enough,  we won’t be too troubled by all this.

I was thinking of removing the Fukushima links from the right-hand column.      Nuclear power plants are an expensive and  suicidal way of getting “power” but no one seems to mind very much.   How about the results of all the accidents around the world,  poisoning, now, our rivers and our ground water?  how about the mind-boggling ongoing radioactive pollution spreading out from Fukushima?   How many October stories told us about the death of fish and mammals in vast areas in the Pacific Ocean. . .

How about a dolphin —

Train dolphin deadPoor thing.    Lots of other specimens that look just like him.

It isn’t only the oceans at our feet:

Train Skies PoisonedMore and more people are photographing their skies above,  stripes of fuzzy white trails, sometimes intersecting,  sometimes curving  (all this against FAA laws);  sometimes analyzed and examined for their chemical and heavy metal components…  But we’re not really allowed to do anything about it.    The Project is too big.    Meanwhile — breathe in that aluminum.  And cadmium.    And barium.    etc.          Shhhhh.

Then I saw China’s  “Practice Cities” —    Little areas built in China, with great care and accuracy,  for Target Practice!

china targetsSatellite view.   Nicely done.    They’re practicing   b* om * bin *  g the Eiffel Tower?   An Interstate exchange?   And then “America”  says “You’d better not use those islands in the South China Sea” — and they did –  and then . . .   nothing.    But three Chinese warships have been invited to a harbor in Florida.   Act of good will.       Inscrutable.

I saw, from this speeding October train,   ongoing acts of violence against Christians and Jews:

Train Joseph burning

I thought this view was “odd.”    Sad and odd.    This is the tomb of Joseph — you know,  Joseph of the Coat of Many Colors?   Joseph,  the Patriarch who saved Egypt and the surrounding Middle Eastern area from the severe seven-year famine.    Joseph,  whom God appointed to be the protector of the Israelites during this famine, and thus assure their continuing existence.

What was odd is that I came across a news article I had printed out several years ago.   Same thing.    Same Islamist hatred against Jewish  shrines.      And other historic shrines and archaeological sites.    I understand  Palmyra lost some valuable historic sites. .  .      The ongoing War of Expansion.

These people are still “in the way”  and so there is a new “meme”  going around.    See if you can catch it from the two following photographs:

Nasty view from out of those black train windows.   I take offense at this.     Two people who are very near and dear to me,  two people in my own family, whom I love very, very much . . .  are Jewish.

The world, in general,   does not take offense at this, though.     Or maybe they have lost their moral authority,  their sense of right and wrong,   their spiritual strength.

Maybe we haven’t reached a Tipping Point yet.    I wonder about this.

When I went to church this weekend,  I didn’t know that just a few hours later,  others like me would be going to church too,  in Syria.   Only during their Mass,   as people were getting ready for the actual Communion,   a bomb was lobbed onto the roof of their church building.    400 people inside.

The roof held, and only a few people were injured.    Had it not held, it would have been a massacre of great proportion.    People, just like me,  doing what I do.

Here are some words of the report:

OCTOBER 26 – A mortar shell last night hit the Latin church of Aleppo dedicated to Saint Francis, in the Aziziyeh district, while mass was being celebrated in the building. The grenade, coming from areas held by anti-Assad rebels, hit the roof, tearing its dome, but did not penetrate inside the church, . . .   “Bishop Georges Abou Khazen, the apostolic vicar of Aleppo, said that ‘if the grenade had exploded inside, there would have been a massacre.’”

So,  things are getting dangerous,  because that’s only one report of the almost daily attacks on Christians.

I didn’t even want to look outside that “train window”   and see the Invasion:

Death of EuropeA small portion through Europe’s fields.

They leave behind tons of garbage and throw garbage and feces and obscenities at the relief workers:

This video and others like it made the rounds in October.

Look what I stoleHe is boasting about the things he stole from the stores in his “host” nation,  the one that invited him in.   On the table in front of him,  obscured by the black frame,  are a half a dozen or more  iPhones.   Proudly stolen.

I take this one personally too —    It happened this month in Sweden:

All your women belong to usThe Islamist is shown hitting the Swedish woman,  then knocking her down and kicking her,  injuring her severely, as it turned out.     The video that this photo came from says:  All your women are ours.”

Want a European video?  I think I can make it happen.  A short one:      It’s here,  if you want to see what happens when you realize you’ve “lost”     —     I think it’s called “Meanwhile, in an average German city.  ”    https://youtu.be/-VJyKRwQHHM

Well,  whatever,     Civilization rose on the Natural Law formulated by the Greeks, and consequent understanding of Natural Morality and Society and Politics administered by the Romans;  then fully developed by Judeo-Christian moral foundations, and brought into being by Christendom.

Toss out any of this,  reject Christianity, for example,  and then civilization – civilized life, as it’s commonly understood — has no leg to stand on.  Anything goes.   Might makes right.     You lose.   Even if you’re one of the Powerful,  because  the Powerful always eat their own.    Anything goes.

But to preserve what is familiar to us:

“Itaque fratres, state : et tenete traditiones, quas didicistis, sive per sermonem, sive per epistolam nostram.”

The operative word being:   sta’te    (two syllables)   —  Stand fast!       (The above quotation from II Thessalonians 2:14)

Stand fast,  hold fast to the teachings that have been handed down to us;  so things don’t fall apart.

So that was my October.    Flapped.

I’ll get off that train now,  and turn to other things, closer to home.   Domestic affairs.   Domestic treasures.     Watched over by Christ the King,   whose feast day we just celebrated.   The King is not absent.   Viva Cristo Rey!

Time to re-watch the movie:  For Greater Glory.    Pretty difficult scenes from that train too.
